MG MG Y Type - Gasket Sideplate
Hi all, Does anyone have a rubber type sideplate gasket fitted to their XPAG. Possible that this may apply to Australian cars as my YT imported from OZ has such a gasket fitted. Mine now leaks and the cork gasket that came with my original old stock Payen gasket set seems to be too small to cover the high points of the sideplate therefore is unlikely to form tight seal Richard |

Hi Richard, cork gaskets shrink with age,how much to small is it? quite often i've managed to get old stock gaskets to fit by steaming them, give it a try John UMG624 |

Yes , try steaming it Richard, or else you can get the side plate trued up fairly easily. If you do it yourself check the level using a piece of glass that is larger than the side plate. Float Glass usually has good flat surface. Paul |

John &Paul, Thanks for advice will give it at go. The gap is about 5mm short off memory, but not measured the accurate distance short. Richard |

If steaming does not work, you can get very good silicon gaskets for the XPAG from Tom Lang. http://mgtrepair.net/ I have them on my TD. Jim B. |

Richard, if you can hang on for a couple of days i have been talking to a firm i know who would cut your gaskets out, made of cork bonded with nitrile rubber the cork is a better quality than normally used in gaskets let me know if interested JohnUMG624 |
