MG MG Y Type - Gearbox to fit XPAG engines
For anyone interested I have now listed a gearbox to fit XPAG engines on E-Bay under the title of "MG gearbox for XPAG engine". I am not sure whether the gearbox was common to all M.G. cars fitted with the XPAG engine, TC, TD, TF, YA, YB, YT and would be grateful if anyone could confirm whether this is so or not. Thanks in anticipation Clive Evrall |

the listing is: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140443543275 Clive, The gearbox doesn't have the remote control as the t-types have. In fact it has the broken remains of the Y-type control. You can compare it with this picture: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccy/specialys/yb0805/yb080530.jpg At first glance it looks to be for the 8" clutch, but maybe others can comment? BTW: the TC gearbox is totally different from the Y-TD/TF gearbox. |

Many Thanks Willem, I should have thought of that. Please put it down to my mind being addled after a few minutes on the computer. I have now changed the description. I didn't know that the TC gearbox was different to the others, by that I mean the gearbox itself rather than the remote control linkages. Does that mean that the gearbox off a YB or a YA wouldn't fit the XPAG engine as used on the T.C.? If that is the case I will need to change the description again. Thank you again. Your help is very much appreciated. Clive (MGYBCLIVE) |

Clive, Technically it would fit a TC XPAG, but I dont know if it will fit the TC car. |

Clive, The TC gearbox is much stronger. It was often used in V8powered specials. Here's a picture of a TC gearbox: http://www.terrybone.co.uk/car2.php?CAR=-159 The TC has the 7.25" clutch so even if your gearbox will fit the TC engine, I don't know if it would actuate the clutch properly. My YA has a later SC2 engine with the 8" clutch. The original gearbox is meant for the smaller clutch and with some simple modification it does work. If only you were offering this 'box in Holland, I would have been interested in the bellhousing.... If you really want to do some digging into what engine you are selling, you could read Neil Cairns' excellent piece on MG engines: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccy/pdf/enginehist.pdf |

Thank you very much indeed for all your help Willem. There's an awful lot to take in. It is very good of you to take so much trouble. Reference offering the gearbox in Holland a friend (and half owner) would consider delivering the whole assembly to Europe, expenses to be negotiated, but it is too late to split the box from the bell housing and sell them seperately. If you weree interested in the engine as well then the overall total delivery expense would be the same in total. Thanks again Clive |
