MG MG Y Type - Glove box fixing

Hi All
Getting ready to refit the dashboard and am curious about the glovebox fitting .
Basically should there be any sort of fixing at the back of the glovebox ? Mine has two big bolts and washers holding it to the bulkhead but these have distorted the glovebox at the back and the holes in the bulkhead are a diy fix by the look of them .
What is the correct fitting method please.

Thanks for all help as usual

What car is it John? I expect that the YT is different from the other two. Speaking for the YB which I have just replaced the dash on I can tell you that there us no fastening at the back of the glovebox of any description. It is suspended purely by the ring of tacks around the door opening under the chrome strip.

Thank you for that quick reply. Sorry i should have said its a YA. As i suspected the two bolts, which look about 5/16"dia are an addition, overkill or what , pity because it has pulled the back out in a big curve.
Anyway thanks again ,most helpful .

Sorry to be a bit late on this John : I assume you have the important piece of support timber which screws to the lower rear of the (inner) dashboard ply, to offer critical support to the hinges and to the bottom of the glovebox?
You might be able to see in the first photo the 2 vertical marks - they show the location of one of the hinge screws on each side. The second photo shows the countersunk screwhead marks where the support piece mounts to the rear of the inner dashboard ply.
The photos are of my original support piece, which I have kept; I made up a support piece which mounts behind the dash and provides rigidity to the entire back of the dashboard as well as a solid all-round mounting surface for the glovebox. It ain’t going nowhere!
Hope this helps.
John.

Hi John
Thanks for the reply.Yes i had got the piece that supports the hinges , good idea to make it full length but its all in now so that will have to be next time!! I also have two raised head bolts fitted in the centre about 1 ins up from the bottom edge ,drilled 1ins each side of the centre.I thought these were original and held a support bracket, because they look the part but it seems they are a diy idea maybe to support a radio or a switch panel .

Anyway good luck with yours
