MG MG Y Type - Green Block
The block on YT4319 is green as seen in the picture. The engine number is original. The car has been stood for 50 years and not run. Has anyone else seen a green engine in 1950? The original colour scheme was black with beige seats and beige piping on them.

Bob, what is the engine number? Does the block have a tag? cheers Stuart |

It would not surprise me if it is original - I had an original green engine in my MGB - these engines were made alongside those for other marques and it is probable that some got painted the "wrong" colour either by mistake or because they ran out of the "right" colour at some point. |

I have seen green blocks on early cars , I have the engine from Y 0974 which has a green block it is original having only done 70,000 miles.

Hi Stuart ,The engine number is 14174.Under where the plate for the engine number is mounted is the number stamped in about 3/16 of a inch high numbers 14174 which matches the body plate. |

Bob, The engine and firewall color on contemporary TC's (up to about TC5500) was a grey green. Not quite the olive color shown in your photo, but close. I suspect that it is entirely reasonable that all engines coming down the TC/Y assembly lines would have been the same color. Rocky |

Bob Wood, can you post a photo of your body plate please ? - I can't seem to find the photos I took of your car before it came out of it's slumber. Cheers Tony |
