MG MG Y Type - Headlight rims.

Is there some secret method to replacing the headlight rim/ headlamp into the headlight cowl? Mine don't seem to want to fit.

What's the problem there?

There is a tang on the inside rim of the headlamp outer ring that should engage in a slot in the step on the bowl rim and then a screw secures the ring to the bowl from underneath I think from memory does it not? I am at work currently so cannot check on my car. I could be mistaken.

Thanks Paul,
Yes, I get that, thank you, but should the top end be screwed in firmly before the rim is pressed over the two flanges, or vice versa?
Many thanks ,

Snug the screw AFTER you get the rim in place.

Hi CR,
Yes, I've tried that, but the rim just won't go on that way once the flanges are covered first. Any other ideas? The weird thing is that I've had them off twice before, and I don't remember having this kind of battle before.

Can you provide a picture of your dilemma?

Just for reference, in future, don't make do with the spring clips froa greenhouse to attach the headlight rim like we did: they're too strong and you won't get the headlight back together. Better to use no clips. The proper clips are brassy in colour
