MG MG Y Type - Heaters and foglamps

At long last slight repositioning of the water outlet for the Smiths heater in my YB has produced plenty of hot air instead of the previous icy blast so am grateful for this original though non-standard fitment.
Can anyone advise on a source of supply of a Lucas SFT 575 foglamp or failing that a Lucas FT57 which was very similar though a bit larger. At present I have an SFT 576 which sounds similar but is in fact
completely different.

They are showing a 575 and cheaper than I paid them 3 years ago !

Where did you position the outlet? Would love a picture of the heater so I will know the correct one to get for my YB. Thanks. Larry

There is an article by Blower I think on fitting a heater to a Y type. I may have a copy if you cant locate one.
David Mullen

Thanks. If it is in the Blower manual, I have a copy. I will check and see. Larry
Larry Brown

I think it was published in a magazine but was by W E Blower - as soon as I find it will let you know - I also have some photographs of an installation on a Y too. These were taken about 10-15 years ago - I have a Smiths heater I keep meaning to fit! If you send Paul Barrow your address I can post or e mail copies to you. Paul has my details. My E mail is given in this reply.
David Mullen

Re foglamp thanks very much Michael for tip re Gregory Autoparts. Surprising that their price is much less than their offer of FT57. Am trying to order but their telephone on the blink at present.
Re Heater Larry will photograph heater and pipe outlet though this tests my stoneage computer skills almost to destruction so may result in slight delay.

Larry and Dave, and others

Have a look at the Reprinted Atricles page - there is a reprint of the article by W E Blower from the Motoring Magazine, October 1953.

Larry, I now have photos of the heater and (not very good) of the connections in my laptop so the next challenge is to see whether I can get them onto this thread

Have failed to get heater photos onto this thread so will await arrival younger family members to show me how - its easier for those of my generation to understand Y types than computers...

Will those hoses pick additional heat from the exhaust ? They look dangerously close to it !
Remo Peter

No, apparently they did not ... but I guess they were very tough hoses, maybe one or two wire.
Paul Barrow

Larry,
No grandchildren around to explain how to add a photo to this message and a more computer literate neighbour has failed too. So will play around but need guidance. Aplogies for delay

You need to login or register using the link at the top of the Bulletin Board page using or creating an ID for yourself that is unique to you. Remember your ID and password as not even I have access to that!

When you have created your account or logged into your account, you then click on the link to the BBS, and select the Y-Type BBS from a list of all the available MG related BBSs.

Go to the thread that you want to add a picture to, and select Add your comment.

Enter your comment into the dialogue box as per normal, then scroll down the screen and you will see a link to upload a picture. Select that, and then you can browse through your computer, select a picture file and (from memory) select upload picture twice.

You can only add one picture at a time to the thread, so if you have 3 pictures, repeat the above 3 times except that you will not have to log in again.

Larry,
Despite expert guidance from Paul have failed to get the heater photo onto this thread. If you can let me have your email address will try and send it that way.

I asked Geoffrey to email me the photo so I have added it for everyone to see too.

Paul Barrow

Thanks, Geoffrey and Paul.
I do appreciate it. I think this is the heater I want to use. Larry
