MG MG Y Type - Identifying Australian YA Horn?
When we bought Y3348 in 1984, it came with an enormous amount of originality. It is a no-brainer to complete the restoration using as many original parts as possible; this includes cleaning and freshening up the glassware, chrome, interior fixings and fittings, gauges and so on. The horn is an item of interest - I wonder whether any Aussie readers recognize the rising-sun-style fitting on the front, or the name RVB Products? I'm not sure whether to clean it up and put it back on, or whether a Lucas Altette would be more "correct". Does the RVB belong more on someone else's car? Interested in your comments. Regards, John.

Hi John, I am not familiar with this horn but do know RVB were fitted to some early holders so maybe Aussie manufactured. Regards Rob |

Thanks Bob - I've since found another old horn in my pile of old bits in the shed - and it's also RVB, so I'm inclined to agree that it's a pretty common Aussie item, but not appropriate when Y3348 comes back to life. So I might just put it in the cupboard for a rainy day. Thanks all for your feedback. John. |
