I must apologise to you all who have received an email allegedly from me purporting to be seeking your help and another from Manilla!

It first occurred around 9.30 and I was out playing tennis. Somebody mentioned about 11.00 that they had received a spam email from. The tennis club secretary said she had received two. Steve Baker phoned at caught me in the loo and when I got home the list was even longer!

I have been onto BT four times today - 3 chats and phone calls all of which were made by them to me and all truncated - the longest after 30 minutes.

They asked me for my account details but of course when I said I couldn't provide that because it was on my email account - all part of the paperless society but sodding useless when you cant get onto your account.

So they are now sending me a paper account which I should receive within the next seven working days!

Anyhow thanks for your perseverance and I will advise when its back to normal!

Thanks
Jerry

Jerry, what has happened is that your email address book on your account has been hacked. This could either be from your computer, or more likely if you sync your computer to an app on your phone. Phones are much easier to hack and steal from. Once they got your address book they will sell your email addresses in that address book to hundreds of spam email houses and so everyone in there will be compromised now and be bombarded possibly with spam ... especially if they reply to it.

Best action for people receiving emails is ALWAYS check the email address from which it has come, especially the domain name (the bit after the @ symbol). If this is incorrect from what you expect to get emails from the person you think it should be, either contact them by phone and check ... or delete it and BLOCK the sender. Do not reply to them.

I am sorry that there are so many sick people out there. Be cautious!
