MG MG Y Type - Jackall Handle

Can anyone out there supply the measurements for the Jackall handle? I have tried to find one of these handles without any luck, so I am left with the idea of making my own, but need the measurements.

Thanks in advance for nay help you can provide.

NTG Services supply a Jackall Handle for a Y Type, part number S933B. I have just looked at their price list and it is approx GBP 30 (USD 46.50) .

Definitely the best way to go is with the NTG one Phil.

Maybe I'm a cheap-skate, but I got a length of suitable MS round bar and got a mate to bore out one end to suit the size of the pin on the jack pump, then painted it. Works fine - wish the jacks did too!

David and Paul,

Thank you for the tip.

I was planning to make a handle, which I suppose means that there is a kindred spirit in Tasmania, as Mr Turner has accomplished what I have set out to do. Since I require two of these (one for a LHD car and one for a RHD car) I will probably buy one and make a copy from that.

Thank you again for the help

The jackall handle is made out a weird non standard sized tube - a friend and I looked for the right sized tube in Australia, but it doesn't seem to exist! Which is probably why our friends at NTG want so much money for their product. The tube has an OD of 0.691" and ID of O.555" (neither of which are 'standard' Imperial or metric sizes) and it's 18" long. It looks like a drawn tube although I can't think why you'd need such an oddball for such a simple job! It's got a neat little wooden knob jammed in one end onto a dimple pressed in from the outside about 1/4" from the end.

I have just measured the tube used for my handle which fits well and it is 5/8" OD 20 swg wall. ERW steel tube can be obtained rom Mallard Metals in the Uk http://www.mallardmetals.co.uk
who sell by the inch for £2.91 per ft.

Hi Peter

I thought it was illegal in the UK to sell stuff by the ft/yard/lb/pint/gallon - good to see someone is willing to challenge all that metric stuff!

Hey. I will be glad to loan you mine so you can get all the details right. Larry

It seems strange that these seem to go missing from the cars as i would think they would stay in the storage clips and almost never see the light of day. I have met 4 people with "Y" type cars and none of them had this handle. Of course only one of them had the "T" key to open the spare tire locker, so I guess that says something too. I would presume that all Jackall handles are the same, and there are a lot of other car types that use them so they should not be this hard to find. Of course these are not indiginous to the States, so I suppose like Kilts you can find them if you know where to look, but the range of places is limited.

Based on the pictures and my take on the pump itself it would appear that the handle from an old RCBS reloading press would work, but the correct one might actually be more rare and expensive than Jackall handles.

5/8" x 20g ERW tube would do the job, I am sure - the 20G wall thickness is only 0.036" whereas mine(which I think is an original handle)is much heavier with 0.066" wall thickness. I think mine is a drawn tube as I can't see any weld fin that comes with ERW (electric resistance welded) inside the tube.

CDS Cold Drawn Seamless comes 17 46mm OD with 1.63 wall which would be the correct ID. Trouble is I don't think you could buy that by the inch. my thin walled tube shows no sign of stretching.

Just noticed SVW spares sell them for £7
