MG MG Y Type - Jackall Seals
The bottom seals on my Jackall system need to be replaced. Does anyone have a substitute number? Rob |

Rob Check the archives and do a search on "jackall". Specifically the thread "Jackall Pump Seals". As explained this is not a "home shop" job. You have to be a member to access the archives, but it is free and only takes a couple of minutes. Larry 49 YT |

Thanks Larry I did my jacks a few years back and did not have any trouble. I have picked up a lot of fine sand on the cylinders which is where the damage to lower seal came from. I had the seal number around here for years then we moved and..... Rob R 47 YA 0960 |

Rob Perhaps David Hague in England @ the MG Car Club Y register can help you . He arranged a supply a year or so ago . Regards Colin McLachlan 11 July 2003 |

Sorry to dampen spirits folks. The seals that we can supply are for the Jackall pump only (3 seals). THe seals for the rams are not supplied by us at the Register. My recommendation would be to seek the assistance of a reputable hydraulic engineer. Point out the jack ram & seal must be capable of supporting at least the weight of the car, on its own (for safety's sake). The ram should be professionally refurbished. We do have a reprint of the Smiths Jackall Service Manual available and this will be of help to your engineer, and copies are available from David Hague - see the Regalia pages on http://www.mgytypes.org for how to obtain your copy. Remember - do not work under a car only supported by a jack - always use axle stands and a level ground. See also our DISCLAIMER on the Hints and Tips page or Technical Query pages too. About ten years ago I bought two sets of Jackall Ram Seals from a company called SVW Services in Burstwick, Hull- the M.G. S V & W pre-war cars also use the Jackall System with slightly longer (but same diameter) rams. They were 6.50 pounds each back then - 23rd April 1992 - I really should throw this rubbish away. Part Number was R1401. I used one set on overhauling my Tourer (car since lost) rams and the other set put aside for my Saloon. The second set of seals are still there waiting on the shelf!!!. I had the rams hard-chromed - worked a treat too - very slight leaks at first, but the more you used the rams the better the seals seemed to "bed in", and the leaks stopped after about 3 months. Is SVW Services still around? cheers Tony |
