MG MG Y Type - Leaking N/S Hubs
Hi All, A friend with a YA has to change rear brake shoes due to the oil getting through the hub.Oil level in diff is as low as possible, oil seal and half shaft gaskets are changed but after a while the oil is back. Has anyone else come across this ya problem? and how did you cure it. Does not appear to have bearing wear when you rock the wheel. John 0362 |

Half shaft mating surfaces have to be absolutely clean and flat John before gasket. Are you using any gasket seal compound too? Where are you getting your new gaskets from? Paul |

Usual problem I'm afraid, new oil seals should fix it, I use silicone jointing compound. One point to check is that over time the oil seal wears a groove in the running surface, try reassembling the seal by not seating it in quite so far thereby running on a fresh surface. Failing that I think that a sleeve can be fitted. Bryan Ps for now try careful driving and corner as slow as possible so reducing oil surging. |

Hi All, False info it turned out to be a leaking wheel cyl resleeved about 3/4 years ago. second resleeved cyl to fail!! i think it will be a C C cylinder if it goes again John YB0362 |

I know they are expensive but I only ever fit new wheel cylinders to cars I work on John - I view re-sleeveed wheel cylinders as a false economy. Paul |

i agree Paul, i can not see how the cross hatching works while a new cyl is smooth.changing the subject do you know anything about UMG800 up for sale John YB0362 |
