MG MG Y Type - leather washers

Hi All

I am recovering my door cards and stitching the pockets back on (a real labour of love) and became concerned about the inside handles marking the vynal or worse!
I began modifying plated steel washers to go behind the handles but then found one leather washer on a back door.I think this must be the original scheme.
Can anyone confirm this and is there a supplier who would sell or make these.I have researched some leather washer manufts but not taken it further yet.

The ones on the inside of the door handles on my YB are made of a stiff cardboard material - I may have a spare one if of any use. As for worrying about marking the vynal or worse....no matter how much you try the car, if it is used, will get 'worn'...at the end of the day nothing lasts forever so enjoy it and stop worrying!

Mine had card too Brian. I cannot remember if they are the same size or not but they are similar to the ones that I got from Moss for my 1963 Pull Door handle MGB.

Did not even know these parts existed until this posting. Did not take the interior apart was, aready done when I bought the car. Was trasfering parts from a 1arger box I will use on my Commer Highwayman for storage and found these parts in the bottom of it. They look to be make of a fiber or millboard material aprox. 50pt.
I should be abel to find something in my bindery dept of the printing company to use to make the rest.

Thanks all for info,I looked more closely at the one I had and yes it is a card or millboard material and as Frank says about 50pt (which I take to be 50th or about 1.3mm) now just a case of finding material to use.

Paul, I could not see anything like these in the Moss MGB door handle section.

David I'm not really worrying but filling in time while I wait to get Demelza (named by previous owner) the YB on the road next year, probably. At the moment waiting for better weather. And also after spending some weeks (evenings) on each door card I am a little sensitive about them but I agree that will stop when she is on the road again, can't wait

My YB was about 90% restored by its previous owner, including the interior. I finished it off and corrected some deviations from the original. Among the parts that came with the car was a small bag containing 6 large fibre washers, slightly dished. I could not identify them and assumed that they were superfluous, like some other parts that I got.

After seeing this thread, I thought they might be for the door handles and window winders, so I tried one. Hey presto! The fitted perfectly. The only problem is I had 6 and needed 8.

So, after a little thought, I made up 2 more using gasket paper. I drew two concentric circles of the correct diameter, cut out the discs carefully with scissors and then punched the centre hole using a leather punch.

I am not sure if they will be as durable as the originals, but they are very cheap.
