MG MG Y Type - Masaaki Sakaguchi

It is with deep regret that I have to post that today I have been advised of the recent death of Masaaki Sakaguchi.

Masaaki was working his MG PB, he felt sick and called an ambulance. He lost consciousness in the ambulance and went into cardiac arrest on arrival at the hospital. He passed away on 13 May because of cerebral infarction. He was 65 years old.

Masaaki has been a long time MG Y owner and was been our International Representative in Japan since the inception of the International MG Y Type Register. Masaaki has also provided many fine parts to other MG Y owners over the years too and was an irrepressible character. I will miss his humour, bright outlook and colourful emails.

So sad to hear.

Sad to hear. Didn't personally know Masaaki Sakaguchi however was well aware of the help he offered to fellow enthusiasts and it is another talent lost to the Y community.

Thoughts with his family.

My prayers go out to Masaaki's family.
Death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity.
I guess we all have to cross this bridge one day.
May God bless the Sakaguchi family.

Very sad news indeed...he was a fine engineer and so helpful from what I hear. Andrew Sorouni from NSW has summed up my thoughts at this time. Thoughts also to Paul B. who has had to pass on sad news to us all on a number of occasions.
D MULLEN

That is indeed sad news. I too will miss his specially written comments.

65 is too young an age to die, but dying suddenly while tinkering with your MG must surely be better than spending the last years in a care home, without knowing it.

My condolences to the Sakaguchi family.

Sayonara Masaaki.

We have had contact with Masaaki ever since we took over the MGCC Y Register Shop regarding various beautifully engineered items of regalia and tools which he manufactured for us. Despite the language barrier, we managed to communicate through translation software and he was unfailingly polite and generous in his thoughts and deeds.
Regrettably, we never got to meet him face-to-face, but we're sure it would have been a great pleasure to spend time with him. His expertise will be a great loss to Y Type owners across the world.
We send our sincere condolences to his family from us,on behalf of the MGCC Y Register Committee and all Register members.

This is sad news but I do agree with Willem. I hope the Sakaguchi family find some consolation in their happy memories of him.
I never met or spoke to him but...
When my XPAG was being rebuilt I was having difficulties sourcing a spacer for the distributor. I posted a request on here and he sent me a beautifully detailed engineering drawing. I gave it to an engineer's workshop, they machined it from his drawing and it fitted perfectly. He would not take any payment for it.

I bought a set of his small spanners from Mike and have had them in my glove box.
On the Spring Run two weeks ago, when Gary's brakes locked up it was Masaaki's 3/8 spanner that helped release pressure from the brake cylinder and letting Gary complete the run.

He and David are a great loss to us but a much greater loss to their families
