MG MG Y Type - message for Rob King

Hi Rob,
Did you get the exhaust sorted from the octagon club, is it now a good fit as I am ready to fit one.
Cheers chris Pick

Hi Chris,

Had not heard from Octagon so rang Geoff last week. He says that there have been no developments. They were hoping to get their hands on an original front pipe from Neil Cairns to use as a pattern but this clearly has not happened yet.
We have had major elderly family problems over recent months and my project has completely stalled.
When it comes to it I will probably go with NTGs front pipe.
Good Luck

Sorry to hear about your family problems Rob, I hope they resolve satisfactory and you can get back to your Y.

Thanks for the info Chris

I had my stainless steel YA exhaust from Octagon club (around 18/20 years ago) and it fitted perfectly, so unless they have changed supplier there should not be an issue?

But I did have a half shaft last year from them which fitted ok but recently when removing the brake drum it was seized solid onto the half shaft so the whole lot had to come off. I have still not been able to part them.

Like Steve I am surprised to hear the MGOCCis having problems with this. Back in the day I lent them a down pipeand they made a full set of drawings and master so that this would not happen so I am very suprised by this too.

Steve, have you tried some heat (propane gun minimum) to the brake drum? Play it evenly over the drum and you wont warp it. Once seperated and cooled, put a small amount of anti-sieze paste on the head of half shaft (not very much mind you as you dont want it centrifuging off onto the drum sides and contaminating the brakes.

Paul,

I was in a rush to clean the brakes for MOT so this is a job to be done over winter.
Just shows that a small change to a tolerance can cause a problem.
