MG MG Y Type - MG Engine History file on eBay

Some of you may have seen recently advertised on eBay copies of Neil Cairn's booklet on MG Engine History offered for sale by eBayer Phillby123.

Please be advised that he DOES NOT have permission to reproduce this file NOR consent to sell it, or any other publication by Neil.

This file can be downloaded from several places on the internet free and if you would like a free copy at least one place you can get it is from the side panel to the news page on www.mgytypes.org.

Has Neil or anyone contacted eBay to advise them of the facts? I believe that they will pull the auction.

Hi Larry

Yes thanks I have logged the issue with eBay and we are awaiting their reply.

The seller has a very strong attitude problem - get this, he thinks he is offering a service we dont!

Can you believe it?

Paul - Unfortunately, the only thing that may stop this scumbag is to have Neil file a cease and desist order through the courts. This individual is clearly in violation of copyright laws (reproducing and distributing someone else’s material for profit) and the courts can step in and stop it, but the owner of the material has to initiate the action. In the UK the law is quite clear on this - copyright theft is exactly that - theft, punishable with imprisonment for up to 5 yrs and a criminal record - the Police are also on the case. Like you say, the scum of the earth, and it was very interesting to see that he thought his target audience are 'small minded'!!

Paul,

Interesting that you have the publication by Neil on the Y type website - I am sure I saw this recently for sale by the Octagon Club at Totally MG at Epsom this year.....

.... on another note, reading through Neil's work, I found a few inaccurate refernces - the most notable refeering to block cut outs in the B series engine being for the inlet valves, they are actually for the exhaust valves! There is also a suggestion that all MGB engines had duplex timing gear whereas the Marina had simplex gear, the truth is that the MGB inherited the simplex gear with the standarised 18V engines.

I don't know whether anyone is still updating his work but if so you might pass on my comments.

Interestingly, philby123 (or however it's spelled) BOUGHT this item from another eBayer (check the feedback).
