MG MG Y Type - MG stuff on ebay

There seems to be quite a bit of rare MG literature (T and Y etc) on ebay from a seller who says he has been refused permission to attend Silverstone by the MGCC ???- any ideas what is going on re all this anyone. Try the link and look at other items for sale as well as his comments:

The sellers concerned are Octagon Originals - better known as Dave and Liz Richmond. Many know them and love them as I do. They have been refused permission to attend by the MGCC because apparently (I was in the US so am unable to verify) last year their stall was cut off by a fence from everthing else. When they asked for it to be moved so people could get better access to their stall they were told No people can climb over it if they want to. Sounds all very unsafe as well as discriminatory to me on the basis of disability and age as well as being pretty unsafe advice. This was the route cause. Once good sellers like this start not attending (and I believe MG (Magnette ZA/B/V) Specialist John and Lou Shorten may also not be attending either, then the stalls at Silverstone will reduce to junk shops and there will be little reason for many to go. Just like Beaulieu before it, the event will then have only the racing to attract people and that will become unviable. I hope this gets resolved and they are invited back next year.

For more details on this saga people should talk to Dave and Liz themselves.

Paul and comrades:
It struck me that it is uncomfortable at times, bidding on items knowing that at least some of the bidders are also for real Y guys and gals, as well as communicants of this site. Often it is only by chance that we learn the e-bay names of others. Things are sooo dear to start with, almost wish there was some way we could avoid unnecessarily inflating the prices.

A thought.

I agree. At times I wish we could post here about what we plan to bid on so the price doesn't get inflated, but then that would be unfair to the seller who may also be a "Y person". I suppose the answer is to not sell on eBay and list on classifieds at a fixed price instead. But that isn't the best solution for either party. More of a comprimise.

I've long ago given up trying to match other Y-persons on eBay; some pockets are deeper than the other. The same goes for the illustrated fairy-books and Jim Clark memorabilia my wife collects. Luckily in Holland there are other internet-ways to buy these collectibles than eBay alone.

IMO prices don't inflate unnecessary, it's a reflection of rising interest in Y's and more importantly the effectiveness of the eBay medium. A few years ago you wouldn't find these items at all, or you had to travel a lot to carfairs etc., fun to do but also expensive. Now you can search every evening from the comfort of your own chair!

When I bid on eBay I only put in one bid and that's what I want to pay maximum, I don't look back. That way I "won" (another brilliant eBay expression, I didn't win anything, I paid for it!) an Owners Manual for the Y on eBay UK a few weeks ago for EUR 25,- including P&P. On Dutch fairs these are priced from EUR 40 to 65,-, too much for me!

But... I won it!

I agree fully. Bid once. There is no need to nickle and dime the bidding up. eBay doesn't work like a live auction so there is no need to treat it as such and get caught up in the bidding frenzy. This only drives prices up higher than they should be.
Steve Simmons

One auction just ended with someone paying over $70. for a Ford (tractor supply) Lucas dizzy cap for a T-Type. I have some waterfront land just East of Miami I want to talk to him about.
