I have three oil bath air cleaners taken off original Y-Types (YA & YT) and they are deeper than the one for sale. That may be the correct item for TD, but I believe the export model on Y-Types were twice as deep. If my SONY digital camera had not died in under two years, I could send you a photo to show the difference. But maybe someone else can also check. |

Tony You are right the manifold on Ebay is off an export Y Saloon but the Air Filter is most definately not. The export Y and all YT air filters were much deeper. |

To confirm, you can consult "MG Saloon Cars" by Clausager, on Page 103 is a photo of a Y-chassis with an export air cleaner, and another on page 112. Game Over. |

In addition to above, the mystery appears to be solved on page 119 of "Let there be Y's" by D.R. Lawrence. There's a picture of a "low" export filter with the remark "the silencer chamber is missing". The advertised filter seems incomplete? Tony, as a reward for giving the correct answer, will you now send me one of your export filters? (including the horizontal intake, of course!) |

Happy to send you the alloy inlet pipe for YA, as I prefer my Y's with twin carbs (original or not),but the filters are a tad rare over here, and I'd rather finish my car before dispersal of my "spares". I will contact you if one becomes available. Are you needing one or just a spare? |
Tony Slattery |
Tony, thank you very much for your generosity, but I was joking. My Y5888 has a good "home"filter. When I modify it, it will be with two carbs. |
