MG MG Y Type - MG Y Collectibles

Hi all,
I have recently purchased a small "tin-plate" type sign, depicting a BOAC Comet aircraft with an MG Y Type in the foreground. The quality is quite good, for the price (£5.95+ p&p) and is another "collectible". A post-card version of the same picture is already on the "collectibles" section of this website.
I have no financial or other connection with the ebay seller, other than as a customer.

I have bought one of these and am looking forward to getting it. Thank you Keith for bringing it to our attention.

As listings on eBay are for about a week and the link above may not always work, the seller is COLINTON and his latest listing incorporates the words MG Y in the title.

This is an excellent addition to your garage wall and you can now buy your pride and joy a Christmas present too!

The latest listing link is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370452550105&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 so please support this guy and buy one of these fabulous plaques.

I have no financial interest in any transaction you may make with COLINTON.

I have just noticed that these tin plate signs are available in two sizes; 6 x 8 inches and 8 x 10 inches - obviously at different prices. Scroll through his list for the one you prefer. Looks good on my garage wall. Enjoy

Cant remember which I ordered now ... but when it arrives I will order the other size too!

Thank you Keith for alerting us to this eBay item which would have otherwise escaped my search emails from eBay and I am sure that of many others too. This is just what the BBS is for ... well, one of the things!

I like these! I will be getting some to. TY for mentioning them. Great site.

Mine arrived today and it is great ... so I immediately bought and paid for a larger one.

Heck if he did a gigantic one I'd probably want that too!

Great garage item!

Keith,
"Safety" Fast, on the apron of an International Airport?
Hope the driver has Airside Insurance. I notice also that there is room for another row of seats, the artist having somewhat shrunk the occupants.Other than these trivia it looks like a nice thing.

The original for this artwork was the Nuffield/BMC artwork department Ted. Back in those days there wasnt the litigious society we live in today with respect to Advertising Standards. One is left wondering though sometimes what standards they do have today!

As you say - all considered, these are very nice indeed and a lovely present for you to give to your car at Christmas.

Good to hear from you.

Strange idea though to match the then-supermodern Comet to a pre-war designed car.

Hello Peter,
Perhaps it was a play on "Safety Fast"?
Unless anyone else has any suggestions.

Maybe it was just to prove that the mighty Y, despite being a pre-war design could still hold it's head up with pride in a more modern society. (and still does to this day)
