JC Jebb

John,

If only you had done this year ago I would have snapped your hand off, I've had the YB done now, however be interested to see a photo of the correct profile, I think I may have a correct pattern, but had to settle for something similar purchased from East Kent Trim, Deal, Kent the best match they had at the time.

Could you not get one of the main suppliers (Octagon CC) involved so there is wholesaler for long term?

I have an interest. YB0944 will soon need them. Thanks. Larry and Sam

just thought any of you interested might like a bit of technical on theses seals
Ethylene-propylene rubbers are valuable for their excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone and weather aging due to their stable, saturated polymer backbone structure. Properly pigmented black and non-black compounds are color stable.

As non-polar elastomers, they have good electrical resistivity, as well as resistance to polar solvents, such as water, acids, alkalies, phosphate esters and many ketones and alcohols.

Amorphous or low crystalline grades have excellent low temperature flexibility with glass transition points of about minus 60 °C.

Heat aging resistance up to 130°C can be obtained with properly selected sulfur acceleration systems and heat resistance at 160°C can be obtained with peroxide cured compounds. Compression set resistance is good, particularly at high temperatures, if sulfur donor or peroxide cure systems are used.

These polymers respond well to high filler and plasticiser loading, providing economical compounds. They can develop high tensile and tear properties, excellent abrasion resistance, as well as improved oil swell resistance and flame retardance. A general summary of properties is shown in Table I below

John, is that another way of saying they wear well and last a long time? If so, I'm up for a set. Regards, John.

Hi all
Just been told by a YT owner the seal suits the car and is a perfect fit in the track. He thinks you need just under three metres to do 2 doors.
John
JC Jebb

Bit more info
cost for Y/YB 4 Doors is £34 plus P/P
For YT 2 Doors is £12.75 plus P/P
Seal comes in one long length Y/YB = 8.33 metres
" " " " " " YT = 3.12 " "
hopefully i am right with these length figures if anybody knows different please let me know
Payment people with online banking might like bank transfer its so easy would email you details other wise the old fashioned cheque( possible 5 days to clear).
Shippin/posting i thought i would use "My Hermes" for UK but if you would prefer a different carrier please tell me.

Sorry about this could somebody chack my figures i have just rechecked a front and back door of a Y/YB and my previous figures dont match i had said 8metres would do 4doors, my latest check comes up at 2doors = 423centimeters x2 =846 centimeters which is 8.46metres which is not 8.33 in my previous posting so you would be approx 13centimeters short if you can live with that fair enought other wise you would need 9 metres which would be £38.25 plus P/P
again sorry for this but it needs to be right.
could a YT owener also check the figure of 3metres for two doors is correct Thank You
John
JC Jebb

Had a bit of criticism how i am selling this seal, the consensus appears to be i should be selling by the metre and you choose how many you want, fair enough
Its £4,25 a metre plus P/P

Putting the join there John is a difficult place to get a nice join. Does this stuff stretch when you put it in and if so would it be a good idea to join it on a straight piece after allowing it a couple of days to shrink back a bit?

Also, John, can you drop me a note off line (click on the email link to the left of this message).

Thanks

Paul

Paul Barrow

Paul that is where the seal join position was put by the mg car company when they built the car and it came off the line, i know this to be a fact because my car was only nine years old when bought by my father and would certainly not have had new seals by then. In the fifty three years we have had the car only a cheapo respray and no referb of any kind on trim has been done,Ron darvells Y is the same he has had his forty years and again no referb of the door trim. If you try to bend/ stretch the seal at this acute turn there is a good chance you will break it. the only reason the morris series E door was in one length was because it has a gentle curve not an scute turn at this point

Hi Again,
Just spent 1/2hour or so experimenting with trying to pull the seal through the track, a step to far.Using this method with the seal dry is a no no.
I am not keen on a washingup liquid and water as a lubricant if any water gets trapped between the seal base and the track you have the potential for unseen rust to start. I tryed a small amount of Waxoyl on the base and base sides of the seal, the track is normally tapered and closed at the start and finsh after opening the track at the top back end of a front door i managed to drag the seal along the top and nearly halfway down the window opening the last 30cms be quite hard and tending to stretch. Beyond this all that happened was the upright part of the seal streched leaving the bottom trapped by the track, at this point i abandoned the idea.I still think a dry seal fed into the track mm by mm with a small BLUNT screwdriver is for me the best idea also checking back every 20cms or so to make sure the seal is 100% in place

A similar problem arose when we were first looking at how to fit the windscreen rubber seal. The suggestion I made at the time, which does work, is to apply a small amount of Lard to the track base. Sticky and not the nicest thing in the world to use but the Romans used it to great effect as a surfacant when sliding heavy objects around.

Paul
Paul Barrow

The temperature in the UK at this time of year may not help, you could try to warm it up by (dare I say!) soaking in hot water. or leave above a hot radiator for half an hour so the seal becomes more flexible.
Your right in not using washing up liquid as some of them contain salt.
Stephen Randle

When you get over the awkwardness of buying the stuff as a grey haired man, the lube that is used to ease some erotic activities is perfect for fitting rubber parts.

It's water based and also available in strawberry taste.....

Come to think of it, I guess that's what the Romans used lard for, too. (or was it the ancient Greek)

Have purchased and fitted the door seals supplied by John Jebb, I did as suggested, and did them dry. No stretching no yankiong just plain old slowly catchy monkey style. They fit perfectly..They sit just right, and by golly the look good.
G.R Cotter

John, Hermes finally remembered to deliver the door seals to Richard this morning, Friday 13th too, they fit a treat, although it did take an hour and a half to do two doors. Many thanks.

All I need to source now, are a couple of windscreen wiper gears.
R Taylor

What do you mean by wiper gears - motor end or screen end of cable ?.

I may be able to help with parts but postage from Australia will not be cheap.

Thank you for answering. I am not very internet savvy, so I can't cut something from a page, yet. But if I could trouble you to click on this link: http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/pdf/lucascourse8.pdf scroll down until you read the words: Page 5. Immediately above those words is an exploded view of the wiper motor's gears. The two gears marked 'Gear Sector & Driving Sleeve' have become so worn, in my car, on the left hand side, as to make the wiperblade inoperative. For a temporary fix the right hand wiper is sweeping 150 degrees.
R Taylor

Hello Mr Taylor,
So we are talking of a YT wiper motor, not YA is that correct ?.

Can I suggest you start a new thread, rather than change the subject of this thread.

I have some YT & YA Wiper motors here for sale.

Roger,
Your posting about "My Hermes^ makes it sound like they have been ages in deliverng your order, picking up on Wedensday the 11th and delivering Friday the 13th around 9.00am does not sound too bad to me. I would say you were hanging about if it took you an hour and a half i do a door in 20/25 minutes topps!!!but then i do have good fingers!!

It's a YB, thanks for trying to help.

It was both doors that took an hour and a half. Have to say the seals are excellent, thank you.

Sorry for misdirecting the thread.
