MG MG Y Type - MG Y Register AGM

I note the update that the MG Car Club Y Register AGM will be held on the 20/21st June 2015 at Silverstone. Can any member attend the AGM if they have no plans to stay and pay the entrance fee for spending time at the main event? I personally have no interest in going to Silverstone having found a past event not worth value for money. personal opinion) I prefer some other other events of more interest and better value (personal opinion), however if I did want to come along to see the view and partake in the Y Register AGM surely I would be excluded if it were inside the confines of major pay on entry event?

You missed an excellent show last year at Silvcerstone. The Time Line and displays were well worth the visit. All helped by some good weather for a change. Any MG enthusiast could not have helped but enjoy the day out
Last years AGM was only attended by committee members. Where as we had several Y owners visit our stand on each day. So the idea is to take the AGM to where the Y owners are. Makes sense to me.

Peter.

Fair enough, I cannot comment for last years event as I wasn't there, however impressions from the year I went which may have been 3 or 4 years ago was that it was all about the cars racing around the track, limited car parts for sale, plenty of other types of cars and less than 5 Y's, from memory, which wouldn't justify £26 day entry or reduced £45 for 2 days.
Personally I prefer an event where you can drive and use the car such as Sommertreff event, MGOC Winchester evening runs and Y Register Spring Runs, which I've booked up for this year.

Glad to hear you are on the mend.

Of course Richard that's your view. If more folk attended the AGM then we would have no need to suggest Silverstone. As Peter pointed out last year only Committee members attended which was disappointing considering that it was advertised through the usual sources. Sadly most AGMs in all voluntary groups tend to be poorly attended. So if a couple more folk attend Silverstone then that is some kind of progress.
However I clearly understand your issues.

Over time you have mentioned the need for some changes within the Y Register and yet I cannot recall you attending an AGM in the last few years. The only way to improve things is to come along and put in ones four pennyworth! What is organised is normally pretty good and its a shame that you had problems with your Y when we went to Winchester.

Anyway I hope the fleet is running well and hope to see you sometime. I had hoped to attend the MG Day at Brooklands on 12/04 sadly it clashes with the Octagon AGM which is unfortunate. You might look up the Stratford Festival of Motoring on 3rd/4th May.Its a good event and includes a run on both days and then parking up in central Stratford. We attended last year - it was great fun and have entered this year. Its £18 per car.

Have fun

Jerry,

Your comments are noted. My initial post was not re-visit past arguments or to open old wounds. However your 2nd paragraph needs correcting.

Over time you have mentioned the need for some changes within the Y Register (Correct)

and yet I cannot recall you attending an AGM in the last few years.(Correct) The only way to improve things is to come along and put in ones four pennyworth! (That's open to debate, most suggestions I put forwards in the past via emails or direct to committee were roundly blocked I recall, so I feel disengaged from any hope that if I were there it would have made even slightest bit of difference)

What is organised is normally pretty good (Agree) and its a shame that you had problems with your Y when we went to Winchester. (True but entry an entry fee of £18 put me off, this year £4((Fair value!)) and I'm booked up)

I prefer events like Spring Run where cars are used, personally stood looking at cars parked up is nice but not quiet same buzz.

Well done Richard!

I'll bury the hatchet with you and move on. I look forward to seeing you on the Y Run

Some time ago in Holland it was introduced that at the AGM of the MGCCH and MGTTO rather excellent lunches are served with the compliments of the club.
Attendance is rather good....
Willem van der Veer

Dont know if it still is done, but when I was Treasurer after the AGM we all went to the Boundary House for lunch - visitors included at the Register's Expense. It was a small way of thanking the visitors for coming and the Board for the work put in over the year Willem.
Paul Barrow

Yes Paul it is!

I think that Willem's idea is excellent and I will suggest that we will prepare a light buffet as an encouragement. Then we can provide some food (and drinks?) to be consumed in one of the pits that we have been allocated for the meetting at lunch time on the Saturday. I'll also include a note in Safety Fast Monthly jottings and on the website. And also promote it on the Bulletin Board

Thanks for the suggestions Chaps!

On the day of the MG Car Club Y Register AGM, I was wondering what the register were going to be doing to raise new members to the club? I understand the club have lost 4400/420 members in 2018 and there some kind of a club initiative to raise members with the register raising the most new members winning a prize!
I tried to join the Y Register Facebook Group that I read Jerry state you did not have to be a member but got declined several times with some excuse that due to GDPR I could not be allowed in! Bizarre as if I were applying to join, I would be the one making the request. I fail to see how the register are following the stated aims of the club to raise members and make up a loss of £20K deficit of club members who have left in 2018.
