MG MG Y Type - MG YA FOR SALE AT SUSSEX SPORTS CARS
I have just seen a very nice YA for sale on the Sussex Sports Car site. It is, however, very expensive at £13,950! I think the link is www.sussexsportscars.co.uk but just googling the name will find it. There are I would add a number of highly priced cars on show - although the Airline PB has dropped from £199,000 (at Stoneleigh in Feb) to a very affordable £175,000! I jest of course! I dont recognise the vehicle, though I am sure that Jack Murray is aware of it. There are 43 excellent photos and the exterior, interior and engine bay look truly superb. It makes the Y shown on E-bay and referred to by Dave Mullen look decidedly second class. It will be interesting to see if its sells. Certainly the pics were taken somewhile ago - well when there was snow last on the ground! Sincerely Jerry |

It certainly looks good, although there a few things that are not quite right. For the asking price, it should be near perfect. The grab straps and rear window blind are missing - difficult to source, I believe. The bumper over-riders are from a TD - the same as fitted to the rear of my YB when I bought it. Although I could not get genuine replacements, those from a Morris Minor are a much better match to the Y Type ones; good quality reproductions are available for around £25. You do need to modify them to get them to fit the Y Type bumper profile though - an our for each with a small angle grinder. If it does sell for anything near the asking price, it should raise the value of Y Types generally. I suspect that it will not though. There is a YB with historic significance for sale in the Classified Ads section of this website for a lot less money. It too looks in very good condition and probably much better value. |

Hi Mike Jack Murray mentioned that the YA was for sale on the Classic Car site for £7,500 in May! Some mark up. Andrew Morland's YB is worth far more if the YA is seen as a benchmark as it has a proven pedigree. A fact that adds significant value to a car. Interestingly rhe ex Dick Jacobs Y type was originally sold at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for just under £8k with all the taxes etc added. It was then for sale in Norfolk from a Dealer at around £18k. Whether he put it into the auction at MG Silverstone in 2009 I have no idea. The estimated price at the Auction was £15k. These rally cars are rare and the prices asked reflect this. I know Andrew well and the car and I would think that it's a good buy at that price. Sincerely Jerry |

Hi Jerry This car is no longer for sale. It is owned by an owner who is known to me and David Pelham and the International MG Y Type Register. You can check the details on the online Register Database enquiry service at www.mgytypes.org. Paul |

Hi Paul I dont quite understand your comment saying this car is no longer for sale. The owner of Sussex Classic and Sports Cars, Jerry Wadham confirmed by e-mail this morning that it had just arrived in stock and is up for sale. Have I missunderstood you? Busy on the re-trimming of the YT at present, in between the showers! Sincerely Jerry |
