https://www.facebook.com/groups/114930561925728/

For those who may have only recently acquired their Y Type, whether you have just purchased a Y, YB or even a YT, whY not come and join an active Facebook group of 253 members. This is the group for those interested in Y Types bottom line. Free to join and a superb social media complement to the International MG Y Type Register https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/index.shtml

If you also join the 2642, Octagon Car Club you can join the Facebook social media hub found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/247032335694366/

The Octagon offers support and spares for the upkeep and maintenance of these fine cars.

My association of this club is as happy member and customer, I've no financial gain or benefit from this post.

But don't forget those of us don't, or won't, use social media. It would be a pity if this wonderful resource were to be bypassed because others were more convenient.

Thank you Ian - the purpose of the website was ever only to try to be a one stop non-aligned impartial source for everything MG Y related. Back in 2002 that was a bald goal and no one could foresee Social Media's rise. However we try to keep up with changes too.

At the end of the day, the website and it's content can only be as good or as up to date as the submissions the members make.

Regards and best intentions

Paul, your (our)website speaks for itself , it's a fantastic base for Y owners
Keep up the good work, I hope you know how much your efforts are apreciated by us Y owners
To me if R has to try and sell his 253 member facebook thingy it can't be giving people what they want really not me anyway

Willy,

Clearly you may like to review my post, I'm not trying to sell "his" 253 members. Facebook page is not my page. I was making those not aware of its existence aware. That is all.
You probably note the BBS is getting less use and as Paul rightly points out, it is simple early technology, great tool and not for one moment knocking it. One must move with social media, Carsten Deuster who was founder of the first Facebook page gets the credit for 250± following. You may not know or even understand that event video's, photos, questions and hint and tips feature on the group Facebook page, it allows for anyone to post comments, and unless illegal, you can post what you like if it's Y related.

I contribute information to the IMGYTR regularly, and glad you agree it is top top site. You could also join the MG car clubs Y Facebook page too, if you desire details of the events the club run, with 90 odd members, and lastly you have MG car clubs website setup in a similar vein to compete with IMGYTR site.
Hope that clarifies your misunderstanding.

Both have their place in this wonderful virtual world. I think there is ample room to coexist as you both point out.

The IMGYTR is Your register not mine (love your aside there Willy :) )and it will be what you all want it to be. I can only post what I am sent for content and events. The advantage of the website over Facebook/twitter/myspace - is that when something is posted here ... it is there permanently whereas all social media is very short term and fleeting in comparison. As I said, room for both hopefully and posting on one does not necessarily preclude posting on another.

Like you Ian, I have never used social media, but it's here to stay. What I have found is that in certain circumstances you can access it some of it without the need to sign up, leaving Mark Zuckerberg frustrated that he hasn't got your email or other personal details.

There are so many sites on the internet that it seems hard to keep up, but if you have a minute, click on this link and see comments from the Y fraternity: http://www.mg-cars.info/mg-y-type-bbs/include-your-y-on-the-mgcc-y-register-site-2014101220183917945.htm

The IMGYTR really is a most helpful place for help with those hard to diagnose problems that can ruin your enjoyment of your car. But Ian you do have a point. Threads that are not of a mechanical or engineering topic often attract more comment than those that are, I remember one about raising the profile of the Y Type that ran and ran. So come on and post a thread about what you do, or how people react, or just a general observation of life with a Y Type.

Robert,

You make some very valid points, especially about the IMGYTR really is most helpful place etc. I have yet to find another car site that matches it. One really interesting point is observing how over the years the car magazines, with the exception of the Bulletin (Octagon car club publication) contain less technical articles and are now more social reports. Look back on on IMGYTR at the early articles found here https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/newsletter.shtml and compare to the more recent articles, you will see what I mean. The latest Safety Fast article from Y Register was about their shop, the Oil pipe troubles of one of their members all of which were published in real time on the club register website, the Octagon Facebook site and on their own site from what I was told, therefore leaving me left reading nothing new when I received my second hand copy of Safety Fast. Thankfully it didn't cost me to read second time round!
