MG MG Y Type - MG-YT for sale on Ebay

I HAVE JUST LISTED MG YT EXU 2025 ON EBAY

The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4593731513&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUK%3A1 for viewing.

Stack of photos and I agree that the 'rust' is not really a problem - see item description.

It would be a good idea though to get photos of both sills at the footwell end and also of the rear spring hanger area if you are interested.

Dave:

Have you done any work to this car?
Mark Weissman

Let me rephrase that - is there any new refurbishment that you've done it since you bought it?
Mark Weissman

Hi Guys

Can anyone explain why this car is listed as a T-Series?

Surely in 2006 we all know what we've got and what the buyer is looking for. Confusing the market can lead to trouble.

An F1 salonette restored as an F2 and offered in an UK auctoneer's catalogue fairly recently as an F2 (40 two seaters built) caused the auctioneer much grief when he had to tell everyone that it did not have an F2 chassis number and therefore the description was false and misleading.

It's not only Caveat Emptor these days it's also seller beware!!!

I say call a spade a spade and not a ...... shove!

Keep driving or rebuilding your Y and enjoy.

On eBay when you list a car it forces you into some descriptions ie Make, well its an MG, OK so what kind of MG - Y Type is not an option so seller opted for closest one T Type. At least that is what he told me when I asked him the question as I was puzzled too.

He does know what he has ie a YT EXU and he knows how rare they are (even if he [like the rest of the masses] thinks there were only 877 YTs made - those who visit www.mgytypes.org on a regular basis know there were at least 884!).

Ok, but here's a question: how many EXUs were built?
Mark Weissman

Mark

I am afraid that we do not know how many EXUs were manufactured in total, or indeed how many of each YT variation. The YT Factory Records, accessible via the Y Register website confirms that there were at least 63 EXU models, 8 EXL models and 300 EXR models. As there were at least 884 YTs, not 877 as previously thought, this means that another 500 have not yet been classified.

Without doubt there were more EXR models than EXU and EXL combined, however, we have been able to confirm the 300 plus at present mainly as a result of surviving cars and also the fact that our Y type colleagues ‘Down Under’ managed to locate import records relating to many cars in New South Wales. The ratio of EXUs to EXRs above may not be reflected in the total production figure.

Regards.

David.

I have not done anythin to the car since taking ownership, I have it stored indoors in my garage with my other british classics.

David Pellam

I have studied these cars in detail, I have a copy of "Let ther be Y" and John Lawson's Y type Saloons and Tourers, I have also had a car listed on the website EXU 2859 which I believe is featured in John Lawsons book at the bottom of page 40 and was also featured in one of the UK classic car magazines in the "LOST AND FOUND" section (it has the unique chrome strips along the side). David I respect the work you have been doing and I know we have communicated in the past.

Remembering this car is one of the very first cars off the production line I am curious about some things that I have noticed on this car that appear to be inconsistent with historic records. I remember reading in one of the two books that it was thought (but could not be proven) that some of the really early cars may have been supplied black canvas tops, tonneau covers and side-curtains. What I have with this car are definitely all black, and they look to be original...is this possible do you want me to send photo's maybe you can tell by looking at the stiching patern or fabriction trends? The other thing I noticed is that the body of the car appeares to have be red originally but the strange thing is that it looks as if the fenders may have been black originally, is this also a possibility?, these are the colors that I see where the paint has flaked off All 4 fenders appear to be black where the paint has flaked or chipped...the car was repainted cream and that's what's flaking off?

Are there any specific araea's of this car that you would like me to look at or photograph ?. This car has the second engine off the production line in it is there anything there that needs to be verified? Send me a list I will be happy to help build the historic picture of these car.
