MG MG Y Type - MG YT Proper Interior Patterns
In the near future I intend to replace the existing interior of my 1948 YT. I want to do the replacement with the most authentic patterns possible. I want it to look like it just came out of the factory. I am looking for two things.
1. An interior kit made by a reputable company in original patterns. I want good soft leather. 2. Photographs of an original interior. This will allow me to verify the above kit. It may also allow me to have a good automobile upholstery shop replicate the original patterns in a custom re-upholstery job. Steve Van Ess 843 Yemassee Loop The Villages, FL 32162 |

Stephen, Do you have a copy of "Let there be Y's" - lots of YT interior details and images there. It's available as a searchable CD - very handy !. I have a YT here in Australia with original pattern interior, so can send any images to assist. Cheers Tony The Classic Workshop Black Mountain Australia |

Stephen,
I am also currently looking at the design of the upholstery for my YT. My YT has non MG seats - front and rear. I have obtained 2 front seat frames with tattered upholstery from Tony Slattery who lives about 150km away. As I do not like the biscuit colour of the original upholstery (that I have seen) and that supplied by businesses, I am looking at getting my seats (and interior) done by a local upholsterer who did my hood. As materials these days are completely different to that supplied in the 1950s, the seats will most probably be all leather (or leather like) in a lighter shade of tan (than original), like in later MGs, with a green beading. I am currently pulling together a comprehensive set of paperwork (BBS Archive items, photos of other YTs, LTBYs pages and dimensions I have measured or been given) to be given to the upholsterer when I deliver the front seats to him. I did the same when I asked him to make the YT’s hood and sidescreens which ended up being very well made and near original (excluding larger rear window). I will send some info and photos to you by email. cheers Stuart |
