MG MG Y Type - MGOCC-Door Seals

Hello, for those members who are in the Octagon Car Club, page 41,43 refers to request from Simon Jones regards the need for Door lip Seals.
I know this has had coverage on this BBS and articles may be found in archives.
My simple question is are there other owners in need of such seals?
I believe the correct profiles are no longer available and recall a local owner to my part of the world, making reference to a trimmer having to make do and mend with a profile off the shelf.
Let me know either on the BBS or via my email if anyone is interested and I will explore options of getting a batch made, at this time I have an open mind how I will progress.
If sufficient numbers perhaps the Octagon club may be interested in supporting a batch being made.

Regards

Hello Richard,

From reading Simons letter and looking at the photos I gather that he is trying to obtain the steel channel into which the rubber seal slides rather than the seals themselves.....have I got the wrong end of the stick?

If it is the seal that he requires it can be obtained from Woolies.

Rob,

No I thought he wanted the rubber seal which slides in the groove channel of the door.
I'll check with Woolies then, thanks

You have to be careful the section supplied is exactly as original otherwise the doors won't shut properly.I may have a small amount of the original section somewhere (about an inch) to compare with but a number of people have had problems with sections of rubber seal that are not quite correct.

Yes I too share your concern here and from the BBS threads owners have said just that, Paul Beck vintage supplies used to make/supply the correct extrusion however they stopped their line.
Their part number was R??? it is on previous thread!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the warning, I currently have samples of the original and the Woolies product.....I will post a photo over the weekend.
Have you replaced yours?

I tried replacing them about 5 years ago but as the section I bought from NTG was not the same as the original it stopped the doors from shutting - the section was just too big. Cutting the section lengthwise did not help and was almost an impossible task so I gave up. I ended up using a mnodern door swal with the rubber attached to the bit that fits on the body - it looks OK and works - not original but unless you get the correct section (as per original) you will have problems with door closure. As my car is far from concours it only adds to the character but if your car is really nice you want it to be correct. Also buying so many feet of rubber seal is also expensive - too expensive to get wrong.

I am also in the situation of needing door seals. The original tracks rusted off long ago in the last century. The idea of using a modern cushion seal appeals to me, since I intend using the car for long distance touring again and the tiring wind noise through the cracks can fatigue one. With the 5 cog box and the slightly uprated motor the noise could be considerable at 70+.[Im thinking of the 130Km/Hour limit]
So if you have details Dave of the section you fitted I would be most pleased.
Cheers Bryan
