MG MG Y Type - Miscellaneous Y Parts

I am a new Y owner and am looking for some parts help. First, I need to relplace the small rubber buffers that the back edge of the hood rests on(two to a side). I can't find them in any parts listing and don't even know what they are called. Anyone have a idea?
Secondly, I am looking for the proper paint for the steering wheel hub. The Moss bronze paint is much too light to match what my car has.
I'm also looking for a US source for the windshield seal (winshield rim to the body).
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bill

Do you mean the small round ones, or the wedge shaped ones? We used to do both but sadly the volunteer that was making them has stopped now.

However, keep looking on the site as we may well restart ... if someone out there wants to go into small time rubber molding though. Any volunteers, please contact me urgently please.

As to the Windscreen seal, there arent any suggestions for a US source I can think of, however, of all the ones from the UK, none of them seal especially well anyway - certainly not against UK (or Pacific Northwest) rain. What's the weather like in MN?

If your windscreen doesn't leak, don't change the seal ! I exchanged a shabby looking watertight one against a shiny new piece, and now I get wet feet whenever I drive in the rain.

Can I suggest Remo, that you adjust both the hinges and the wind-out to "squeeze" the new seal a little harder against the body. Perhaps the old seal was a little thicker than the new.

It is a trial & error job to get it right, but better than wet feet. Put a little rubber grease on the inside of the seal to help it slide over the paintwork during the adjustment process.

Once it is fitted & waterproof - test with garden hose on fine spray - then don't open the screen for at least a month to allow the rubber seal to "settle & take shape".

If the seal is wrinkling or tucking under in the corners, it is the wrong seal and will never be weatherproof. The shape of the seal and the rubber consistency has to be just right !.

I personally love the opening screen as air-conditioning, but also need it to keep out the semi-tropical rainfall as well. And it does !.

I have the bonnet side supportson order with NTG. At this time, they do not knoe when they will be available.

Guys,

We used to sell these. I am currently looking into a couple of options for resourcing these so watch out over the summer on www.mgytypes.org for details.

Bill,
The paint colour for the steering wheel hub varied enormously over the years. I have half a dozen steering wheels and they vary from flat chocolate brown to shiny light gold. Look in hobby stores for a metallic spray paint that matches yours the best and try them out until you get a match that suits your steering wheel. If it looks right no one can tell you that you're wrong.

You could always cut down a small solid rubber block to the necessary shape & size. I did so on the YT, using the YA (good ones) as model.

I share this with trepidation as I'm sure someone will tell me that the YT rubber bumpers were different to the YA & YB

The round rubber pads at the rear of the bonnet are the same as used on the MGA - via Moss or similar

Breath out Andrew - they are the same.

If I felt devilish I would have said except for the fact that the YT ones had a dimple on the underside and suggest that next time you see a YT you unscrew one to check, but that would have been mean:-)
