That looks like a piece from a "Meccano" set to me.

Not standard equipment on a Y-Type, but some people collect Meccano bits !.

Can we see a photo of your Y-Type now ?.

Cheers

Not sure what it is strange it is painted same color as the interior

Another, also know of anybody that has a ash tray in the dashboard

There is a single stay connected to the bottom of the dashboard to the firewall to counteract the pull start forces. These 2 brackets may have been used as a substitute for a lost original stay ?.

That's about the only place I could think of a use in a YT. Nice car & restoration BTW. What is the chassis/car number of your YT ?.

As MG's go, a YT is the rarest post war model, only around 900 made.

Was there ever a radio fitted? My guess is they were for a piece of ancilliary equipment such as a radio or heater that has since been removed. You can toss them - they aren't original equipment. As Tony says Erector Set/Meccano strips were green in the 1950s and 60s.

Luacs, They are doing a good job from those photos. Our YT is 3861 - you can see it in YT's on Parade.

Oh, and I have never seen an ashtray in a YT, but there were lots of those sorts of add-ons available in the 50's when smoking was common.

Keep us updated with photos please.

Cheers
