MG MG Y Type - New National Drive It Day 23 June

Wow, get out in the Y Types and enjoy sunshine. Big big result how will impact, over time more prosperous UK.
R E Knight

This is not a political forum but your utterly ridiculous idea certainly requires comment.

When the dust settles and the true reality of this outcome comes to fruition that people might realise that they may have made a questionable decision.

More expensive fuel, overall costs, mortgages etc. A very worrying future for us all and the safety of Europe. Putin and others must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Scotland will be going for independence and we will be left with our role as little inward looking England plus Wales. And now Cameron is going so huge uncertainty.

So in my view most certainly NOT the time or appropriate title for any such idea. With the losses that may arise folk may be forced to sell their Ys so you may be right about encouraging folk to drive their Ys today as they may not be able to afford not to drive them soon.

Jerry,

"get out in Y type and enjoy the sunshine," I would have thought is wonderful not ridiculous idea?

Oil comes from outside Europe so can't see petrol going up. This is opportunity 17,410,742 obviously believe in, from across political spectrum. No it's not political forum, but it is big event at time coinciding with some sun shine, so time for drive in Y.

As working guy I would happily have extra Bank Holiday, here hoping.
R E Knight

OK calm down guys. There are lots of MG Y owners the world over and although there are plenty in the UK too, some will be happy and some not. Let's not use this forum please to promote a political view, but an MG Y view. If you are happy, please go out and drive your MG Y. If you are not happy, please go out and drive your MG Y and I hope that helps you to be happy too. Let us come together in MG Ys.

Thank you

Well said Paul, this forum is no place to air political oplnlons of any kind.

Bill Bennett.

W M (Bill) Bennett

Why not Bill it gaa generated huge interest across the world? Far more significant than driving our cars I would suggest. On the Midget and Sprite Board there are already 86 posts on rhe subject and started by a guy from the US.
nd
Richard I dont know what world you live in! Claiming that petrol does bot come from Europe and that you cant see the price of fuel.going up is I would suggest pie in the sky! Oil which is priced in dollars us very cheap at present but if the price of the pound against the dollar continues to fall then the price at the pump will rise.

As we have absolutely no idea what will happen over the next few months we are in a period of huge uncertainty which is very worrying. Already some international organisations have stated that they will be relocating to Europe or Ireland then the ripple of concern will spread and some poor folk will loose their jobs. This might well have a serious impact upon our little world of wonderful Y types!

Sadly Cameron was arrogant enough to think that a referendum was a walk in the park. There was no need for a refo it should have been dealt with by Parliament. Isnt that why we have a democracy. Unfortunately this was not the choice taken and we have looked at the abyss and 17m have decided to throw throw themselves over and dragged the rest of us with them.
Sorry Bill but occasionally these things have to be said.

All the best

Here, here. This forum exists to discuss Y's, keep any political opinions to yourself,

If this was a normal general election then I entirely agree with your comments John. But its not its an utterly seismic change to a system which certainly has its flaws and has been with us for 43 years.

My point is that because of the uncertainty that has risen it is probable that it will have a aignificant effect on the classic car world. Subsequebtly this could well have an impact on our Ys and their future use. It may not but hiding away with our toys is possibly a somewhat blinkered view of the world.

It might turn out to be the answer to our perceived problems who knows? Certainly no well thought through model has been prepared. So what may happen to investment in spares and supplies and the value of our cars?

In this context I think that comments about how an unknown future may impact is surely worthy of discussion?

Enjoy your Y!

A final comment then I'll shut up.
Richard's rather trusting view that he 'cant see petrol prices going up' has already been proven to be rather misguided as fuel companies have announced an increase in prices in the next few days of around 3p a litre. So as you say Richard get out in your Y! And fill up your tank with 30 plus litres of fuel that will save you a quid before next week.

Perhaps it will come home to people of the decision that 17 million of them have made whilst the rest of us suffer!

Right chaps thats more than enough from me!

Cheers

None of us know how our future, or the future of Great Britain will turn out - but change is one of those certainties of life that we must accept, pick up our troubles and carry on.

We are but a small part in a great big world - no one knows what Brexit will lead to - only that many things will change.

However, I take great comfort from our shared enthusiasm for Y-Types, and we should never forget how fortunate we are to have the luxury of MG cars in our lives.

MG's were built by humble yet wonderful people who simply went to work & did their best every day.

I am a long way from Britain, but I have always admired the spirit of the British people - long may it continue !.

Now, back to the workshop & warm up an M.G..

Yours in MG's
