MG MG Y Type - Nuffield axle parts T/Y/Z types

Hello.
I've been trying to devise a means of adapting larger brakes to the Nuffield axles used on our 1949 Morris Minor. The axles are similar to the TD and, I assume, the ZB and YB?

I'm west of Cardiff, Wales and wondered if anyone round this way has a car I could measure up? Also, does anyone have a file of photos of the suspension and axles used on these types and the associated Morris and Wolseley cars of similar construction (4/50 and 4/44 etc)?

What are the bearing dimensions for the front hubs, the length of the half shafts, the distance between the front suspension upright face that the backplate bolts to and the brake drum-to-wheel face? Ultimately, I'd like to buy a full set of wheels, hubs and brakes to try, if anyone has some going spare.

Thanks

Rob

I think the runnig gear of the Wolseley/Riley 1500 fit and maybe they are larger?
Otherwise I've heard of Midget brakes fitted to Minors.
Willem van der Veer

Yes, Willem, but the 1500 and Midget have 4 inch PCD for the wheel studs, not the 4.5 of the earlier cars. Also, this car was raced in 1953 so Midgets and Wolseley 1500s hadn't been invented. I'm trying to rebuild it as it was back in the racing days.

I may have to buy a scrap car (Y/Z/MGA) to get the dimensions from it. Are there any dead cars in the UK for sale or is anyone breaking one?

Thanks

Rob

OK Rob, but the Y's have 5 stud patterns.
The Z-Magnette does have the 4x4,5 inch stud pattern

If I can get the brakes right then I'd be happy to have 5-studs since I can hide that under a hub cap.
The Morris had 4x4.5 inch PCD and just a 3 inch rim to take 5.20x14 tyres. I guess the Y rims are wider? That would also help. Z parts would be alright if they were from a Nuffield axled car but again it would be best to get them all from one source, maybe a car that had been converted to disc brakes. I have been offered some parts previously but they were, I think, from a later BMC/Austin designed axle with drums seperate from the hubs.
The wheels used in the rally days were probably from a Wolseley 4/50 but it will be hard to find those for a reasonable price, sadly.

Do you know this article?

Thanks Willem.

I've got myself an MGTD axle so that has solved the rear end. Now I just need to adapt the Magnette front hubs to the smaller sized spindle.
