MG MG Y Type - Number on Diff Housing

I am currently fitting a 4.55 diff ratio to YA1006 before heading outback in a few days.

I noticed this number stamped on the modified diff housing (not the original housing in YA1006 - that has no numbers).

As you can see in the second image it is located on the forward facing side of the housing on the left hand side. Could this axle housing be from YA3732 ?.
Can anyone else see a number like this ?.

Just when you think you have seen everything on these cars, another question pops up like this ?.

A L SLATTERY

Hi Tony , you friend and our friend Terry in Melbourne told me you were thinking Of doing this , is it possible you can enlighten me / us how you would achieve this. Source of parts etc.

I presume this will give you a better cruising speed to eventually come to Melbourne, any prediction of the revs required to sit on100kph.

Also , the rust has been assessed on the YT and some cleaning Up started before joining the two halves of the tub. I will post on the site what someone did to a tub and what someone now has to do to join and sills etc.

And is the back any better,( sorry tried to reconnect the correct view but the virus again)
A little work ahead of us , amazing what some do in the name of repair.
Another YT to be reclaimed !

Hi Tony ,If the diff housing has been machined to take a diff centre from another model the workshop often stamps a work order number on it to identify there work for warranty purposes.

The 4.555 diff centre is from a pre 1956 Morris Minor 1000 (see Tony's article on "Higher ratio rear differential" in Hints and Tips at https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/hints&tips.shtml page )

Tony, converted his YT a while back and has driven it to Geelong for nationals and to Perth and back.

In the article Tony states the engine was doing 3625rpm at 100kph.

I have a similar diff sitting on the shelf, just got to get around to removing diff so I can take it to a machinist.

Ewan Ward in September 2018 had an article on how to do the conversion published in "The Octagon Bulletin". Ewan quotes 80KPH - 2960 (down from 3350) and 100kph - 3730 (down from 4220).
cheers
