MG MG Y Type - Optimistic to say the least!!

I rarely comment on the price of our cars as the price and value is a subjective agreement between a buyer and a seller as to what something is worth ... but this is optimistic I think!

It doesn't look particularly original to me. The headlights are early YA and there is something decidedly odd about the rear number plate and lights. Where does the spare wheel go?

I quite agree Paul.

I do like the wires and the colour and interior are well finished.Although, perhaps grey alone would have looked better than grey over black. However, £27k is extremely optimistic as there are several items which one has to question as to their being '100% original' to what - when they were purchased - not to a YB, although of course w/wheels could have been fitted. There are other points - Does the rev counter come from a TF? It's a clever arrangement which I have never seen done before but fits in quite well. The ammeter might have been better fitted as a sumplementary fitting fixed below the dash.

Interesting spelling - makes one think about those dodgy e-mails from various parts of the world that land in one's inbox!

It will be fascinating if it atracts a buyer!

I like the dash arrangement and my attention is drawn to the tubular exhaust manifold and twin H4 carburettors. With the right tuning this could be a seriously fast Y?

Mike Long said: "Where does the spare wheel go? " Behind the number plate, surely, or am I missing something? If anyone has seen this weeks copy of Classic Car Weekly http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/mg there's a YA for sale at fifteen and a half grand. Anyone recognise the number plate?
R Taylor

Robert,
This Y was for sales by trader in Wales. I've noticed few Ys go up for sale with vendor, and then re-appear close time frame with another vendor, surely sign that Ys are being traded for profit as investment and not just for pleasure.

The first point is quite obviously the location! However, whether the w/wheel adaption means that the wheel and tyre depth meant that it was too deep to fit in the spare wheel compartment would mean that the floor would need to be lifted.Although this is probably no more than conjecture on my behalf!
The Y for sale is painted in blue over black with black leather interior.. not original colours though one could argue that they are a period finish. Im sure that I booked this car in for a Spring Run some years ago.

I havent checked the IMGY Ys on Parade but will ask Chria Callaghan the MGCC Y Registrar if it is known to him

My question about the spare wheel - it appears that the spare wheel locker opening has been welded over and the rear lights mounted on the infill panel. Unless the resolution on my screen is off!

There is too much that is not correct for a Y Type for my liking - wood for the dash, door pulls, steering wheel, etc.
