MG MG Y Type - Original MGCC Y Register Members

You may recall the surprise in the register that my wife and I originally formed the Y register within the Car club back in 1979. I have recently been going through various documents and have found all the register renewals from 1980 - A total of 63 members.

With these are all the details of each car owned which may be of interest today but I am not sure if I am able to publish these ( Data protection?).

I have discovered archive letters from members with photographs of then restorations including some of myself (when I had hair) and my wife.

I have also found the first Y register bulletin published by us in November 1979. If anyone is interested I could publish on the website as we hold the copyright.

Thoughts please on how we might be able to share this information with anyone who is interested.

We currently have a total of 6 Y types which now I have the time are being rebuilt, together with a VA saloon which will be on the road this new year.

Care to drop me an email off-line and I will be delighted to look at details with you of what you have and what can (legally) be done with it?

Thanks

Hi Paul and Maggie
I am not 100% certain, but as the information you hold was collected before the 1984 Data Protection Act came into force, you can probably do with it what you will.
The applies especially where information was voluntarily given to you by then owners. Any new data collected since 1984, unless you have the owner's specific information to divulge it, will fall under the terms of subsequent and the current DPAs and should not be published.

If in doubt, contact the Information Commissioners Office,
https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/
as they are particularly helpful and practical in the advice they give.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your observations - The records were sent to the MG Car Club so technically they were sent onto us as the register administration.

Hi Paul and Maggie,
Good to hear the Ys are making progress, it would be great to see you both again at the Spring run in May, Gloucester would be a reasonably close run out for you and we would welcome the VA if the Ys aren't ready.

Jerry did write up the story of the early Register in Safety Fast December 2014 which includes the November Bulletin 1979 that you mentioned as Mike Silk unearthed a copy. The report can be found on both websites. However we would be very keen to add copies of any early records you may have found to our archives.
Happy New Year

There's a name I recall from my early days with Y types from 1980 onwards when both the car and I were in our 20s.
I recall John Lawson meeting wiith Paul and Maggie and passing on the tales of their Y types. Good to hear you are both ok and look forward to photos of your cars on this site. Tempis fugit. I recall John Lawson saying your children's initials were M G A and M G B Grafham but I never found out if he was pulling my leg! I don't see much of John L. these days although he lives only a few miles away as he is quite reclusive now having sold his YB in the mid to late 80s.

Hello Paul Could be that my name was on your list for 1979. That was the year we attended the rally at Hausach 20 - 22 July I think there was about 4 Y's and a couple of YT's out of some 400 entrants. May be due to the difficult spares situation at that time for Y types. Geirhard and Helga organised a really memorable event, the best I can remember. After that some of us took up the invitation by the Swiss club who made us very welcome. We all then went our various ways so we decided Venice would be something for the kids to see. Since we had the Caravan in tow found a nice camp site by Lake Garda and made a day trip to Venice. I think we ended up with another 3000 miles on the speedo by the time we arrived back in Cardiff. For sure I'm getting too cautious in my old age.
