MG MG Y Type - Original Owner

I was cleaning out the glove box of the YB today and decided to browse the original maintenance log book. I can't believe I never noticed it before, but there on page one, is the name of the original owner!

I can't make out the first name, but the last name is Baker and the address looks like 4-6 Tracy Street.

See a photo of the page here: http://www.mgnuts.com/temp/ybname.jpg

The plates on the car suggest it was registered in Plymouth, Devon and the log bok would confirm that, as the cover is labeled with the following:

Barton Motor Co. Ltd.,
Hyde Park Corner,
Plymouth, Devon.

Is there a way to track down this person? I'd love to find out more history on the car, and to confirm that there have been four owners including myself.

From your picture Steve that looks like simply Mrs. Baker. Assuming she was 20 in 1952 (unlikely that a 20 year old would have been able to afford such a car) she would be 80 now.

A trawl through British Telecom's Directory enquiries reveals about 129 Bakers in the Plymouth area, none of whom live on Hyde Park Corner I am afraid (seehttp://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/find/residential/residential_numbers.publisha?SearchType=res&PCD=&REQ=20&RNG=&PageBeginCount=1&Paging=N&PageResultType=subscribe&Searched=Y&NAM=Baker&GIV=&LOC=Plymouth&STR=&PreviousLocation=plymouth&x=39&y=10).

If anyone has any other ideas I am sure Steve will appreciate them.

Steve
The address looks like TRACEY STREET to me.There was a primary school in the street until 1961 and admission records are available from 1948 to 1961.Maybe Mrs Baker had children and sent them there. It might be a lead for you to follow.

Steve, a good place to start on Peter's suggestion would be http://www.plymouth.gov.uk/homepage/education.htm Dept. for Lifelong Learning Plymouth City Council Civic Centre Plymouth PL1 2AA or telephone +44 (0)1752 307400. I would suggest a phone call first to check if you have the right department and who the contact person is before writing. The UK is 8 hours ahead of Pacific Time (Summer time begins same day) so an early morning call should be good!

I would consider sending a nice letter to that address with a photo of the car. Even if the current residents are a different family, they may know, or have been in touch with a member of the Baker family. Worth a shot. I know from my family tree research experience that writing to complete strangers in other countries will elicit a response eight times out of ten.

Cheers
Matthew.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I will probably try them all!
