MG MG Y Type - Other pre-war cars

Were any pre-war-style cars produced after the end of the Y-Type production?
Steve Simmons

In UK car production the easiest one has to be the Morgan. Arguably the most common pre-war themed car is the Morris Minor and VW bug/beetle with hints of prewar styling - seperate wings, and running board in the case of VW. In MG there were obviously the TD and TF and possibly the MGA again with hints of seperate wings.

Most UK manufacturers went over to the US syle of monocoque/enclosed designs though.

The Ford Ten, later called the 'sit-up-and-beg' E93A, or Popular. Made up until 1959. Had awful transverse leaf suspension and 1172cc sv engine. I once ran one, it had inlet manifold powered wipers, that stopped when you accelerated.

The Citroën Traction Avant (<1955) and the 2CV are pre-war (but innovative) designs too. The corrigulated iron Citroen HY van was based on the Traction Avant.

As far as British cars, was the YB the last of the pre-war designs to be produced? I don't consider an MGA a pre-war design personally. Anything with a side-opening hood and running boards should qualify, I imagine.

The R-type Bentley and Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn were only lightly worked-over versions of the Mk VI (bigger engine and boot), and were mass-produced in the sense that R-R sold them as complete cars with bodies by Pressed Steel. They were built from 1952-55, and even their successors, the S Series and Silver Clouds, retained separate chassis and centre-hinged bonnets right up to 1965.

What about RM Rileys? Didn't they even retain some timber framing?

I was hoping to say that my YB, being the youngest surviving Y-type, is the youngest pre-war British car. Sounds like that may not be true. Oh well. I guess I'll have to let the car continue to "wow" people without extra facts and figures. :)
