MG MG Y Type - Perfect road trip through France

Last week my son Thomas and I traveled in the Y from Holland to Mulhouse and Sochaux in France to visit the Schlumph museum and the Peugeot factory collection.

We covered 1.200 miles in weather conditions that varied from very wet and cold and very hot (which caused other unwanted dampness...).

The Y performed faultlessly and used only half a litre of oil, so I must have done something right when I rebuilt the engine?

I'll write a report for the Y-website with pictures but in advance I'd like to share some pictures of an unforgettable journey.

Did you get to see the Railway Museum, I think the ticket for the Schlumph gives entry there as well, and to my mind is one of the best for early loco's. I was a bit overwhelmed by blue cars everywhere, they must have most of the Bugattis that still exist.

Yes we did visit the railway museum, too on a combined ticket.
The railway museum Is indeed superb and in much better shape than the car museum. Several cars (bugattis of course) were parked in a temporary hall because the main exhibition hall had a leaking roof.
Visiting the two museums on one (hot) day was taxing indeed but very well worth it.

Willem et al,
Glad to see that other Y owners use their car for long distance trips, accepting of course that any trip in Australia seems to be a long trip!
We have now completed two - 1000mile round trips to France since June in "KAX" our 1952 YB and delighted to report that both were absolutely trouble free. Our first trip was with the Early MG Society to the Charente region (the MG 18/80 has an engine problem) and the second was our usual 2 week holiday just south of the Loire Valley. We also joined a local French road Rally on this trip and even managed to pack in several cases of wine for the return journey!. KAX returned 29.2 MPG and used about a cupful of oil on each trip. On the open road the cruising speed was about 50/55 mph. A very comfortable and pleasant journey all round.
The first image shows KAX in company with a variety of "early M.G.s" and the second at our Gite with Hosts and fellow guests.
Happy motoring.

Nothing to do with MG Y, but are you aware Willem that tall ships are docking in Amsterdam this weekend. To me of all man's inventions the square rigger bent to the wind is just poetry. Bryan
