MG MG Y Type - Pressure question

Guys
Has anyone here had a pressure gauge into the jackall system---I'm wanting to know roughly how much line pressure is required to lift the car off the ground
thanks

Hi Willy

It is minimal. If the seals are intact and the rear hose good, the pressure generated by the short strokes on the hand pump are more than sufficient to raise the car.

I dont know of anyone who has pressure tested it.

Why are you asking?

Hi Willy,

This might be a way to work it out if you know the weight of the car and the ID of the Jackall cylinders.
I don't know the weight of a Y or the area of the ID of the cylinders so my calculations need to be corrected.

Total estimated car weight 2000 lb. Estimated area of each cylinder 2 sq. inches. That puts 500 lb. on each cylinder. That is 250 lb per square inch pressure needed to support it?

According to Tech data Y types weigh 991kg (2,185 lbs) and a YT is 933kg (2057 lbs)

Thanks
I was intending to do the math on it but thought (lazily
that someone might just have poked a gauge in there
- I've scored a small electric power steering pump and am tossing up to use it or not- It's fully sealed so could be hidden in the reservoir I think--just for a laugh--press the button and up she goes
I'd imagine it is fairly high pressure so will need to test it first and probably have to have a regulator/blow off valve
Might forget about it--we'll see
Thanks for your interest
Cheers

Hi William

That is a bit of overkill!!

Why replace the hand pump? If the seals in the pump need replacing they are readily available and it is a fairly easy job to do (See the Technical Centre button on the Menu and select Jackall Advice from the drop down list).

Overkill maybe, but realistically I havn't got enough of the car for a proper restoration so it's going to end up a bit of a hotrod anyway
For me to get another car for parts, I would probably be better building that car
My thoughts are at least if I build something/anything with the chassis I have at least it's one more car semi saved
I think
Cheers
