MG MG Y Type - Radiator Refurb

Chaps,

I'm just about to take out my leaky radiator so that I can get it re-cored.
I was going to take it to a small local place near Southampton called "Wessex Radiators" but it turns out that they no longer exist (as far as I can tell).
Are there any places that you guys would recommend for radiator repair, ideally somewhere around Hampshire?
A quick web search has come up with M & M Fern Radiators in Dorset or Aaron Rads in South London but I know nothing about them and neither are that conveniently located for me.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Saul.

I'm still in the process of removing the radiator.
Please can someone confirm the location of the "four nuts at the bottom, somewhere near the chassis cross-member" that I need to remove to release the base of the radiator.

Many thanks.

Cheers,
Saul.

There are two studs projecting from the bottom of the rdiator housing, these go thriough the Radiator support member and the rad is held down by double nuts on each stud. steel ringed rubber washers support the rad in the cross member. These go hard with age and will need to be replaced.
To get to the lock nuts you will need to get the front end of the car as high as you can and find a spanner that will reach on the angle as there is no direct access. One flat at a time will get you there eventually.
Tip,when you refit do not do these nuts up until you have fitted the bonnet as the [position of the radiator is vital to a well fitting bonnet.

Cheltenham Radiators have recored a rad for me at lo cost with excellent results. You would need to deliver and collect though.

Good description Peter. Also the two cowl supports either side will need to be adjusted too to get a good bonnet fit - it is a real fiddle to get the gaps right! Definitely a two person job!

Real shame that Wessex Radiator have gone Saul. As a suggestion (because they are local to you) ask the Car Maintenance crew at Sparsholt Technical Collage (ask for Gary Evans if you can) as to where they recommend locally now. Gary is a good friend of mine so say hi to him if you speak with him.

This is how I fitted the nuts on my radiator.

I found out too that the positioning of the radiator is critical for good bonnet fit. I did do it on my own...

I can only agree with the above postings on radiator and bonnet adjustment - my original bonnet centre hinge broke in two places and I have had the devils own job of getting another bonnet to fit. Both the bonnets I have tried seem to be slightly different in that I bet they used one that was a 'best fit' in the factory....mind you as my car had a bump apparently in the 60s the front chassis extension is probably not perfectly aligned either..one point to note is that you can't swop the side panels around on different bonnets... they just dont line up. Waiting to tighten the radiator mounting bolts until you get a good fit is true too. Even now the fit of my bonnet is not quite right but I have learned to live with it as to get it perfect would mean completely taking the car apart I suspect.
