MG MG Y Type - Rear window blind assembly

I have been doing a bit of research on this. If you go to :

http://www.oneillvintageford.co.uk/acatalog/Ford_Model_A_Window_Shades.html

and look at part nos A-48300-12 and A-48301 then these would fit the Y although not totally orginal would probably look OK.

David is certainly correct in the above comments and the cloth they use could be removed from their roller and replaced by a linen calico material fairly easily I would have thought.

Owners in the US and outside of Europe may wish to "cut out the middle man" so to speak and order direct from the US from Snyder's at http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/modelaparts/windowshadesassiststraps.

Using £1.00 = $1.60 Synder's price before Shipping and Handling would be about £17.50 and of course there is no VAT on them so they would be cheaper than buying in the UK!

Good call David

Thats good work Dave I am about to start on my interior trim after christmas and I was wondering how I would make the rear blind.

What is the length of the original blind?
and what material should it be?
is it the same as the headlining?

Thanks chris

The MG Car Club Y Type Register sell the calico material for the rear window blind cut to length, without or with their logo.

You will then also need a control ring to go on your cord and a control knob to hook it on to as per Let there be Ys. These are no longer available, however I have a strong hint that the knobs may be coming available in the future possibly from one of our Australian sources!

Then you will also need the pulleys for the cord ... and I have one spare set left that I could be persuaded to part with.

I used a blind roller purchased from a furnishings and dress making material store called Spotlight (there's lots of Spotlght stores around Australia).Identical to the original except that the roller is made fron a heavy walled cardboard tube, same diameter. Available 90 cm long, just cut to desired length 74.6 cm. The locking pawls in the roller need to be removed to make it suitable for our purpose. Roller cost about $A7 which is about £Stg4.50? Lightweight material, (identical in weight, slightly different colour), for the blind itself came from the same store for another $A5 or $A6. Pull cord was about $A2.

Cheapest bits on the whole damn car!
