MG MG Y Type - Repairs to a valve car radio

Does anyone know where I can get an old (1955-60) valve car radio repaired please?

Thanks

I don't know how it works over the pond, but around here I just look for a small, family-owned repair shop for things like that. The larger chains will charge a huge amount just to inspect it. Finding parts may be a bit more of a challenge.

Paul;

I realize that it is a great distance but if all else fails there is a man in Clearwater Florida that does repair old car radios. At the same time he also installs modern radio works in your old case. It gives you modern electronics but the old appearance is retained. If needed I will find his address for you.

I have a Radiomobile 100 valve radio in my Y that needs repairing. So if someone knows an adress, I'm interested too!

Paul - There are several places here in Washington State that repare vintage radios, so you may want to wait until you are here to get the work done. Dave

Ah, so thats where he's going?

Try putting CAR VALVE RADIO REPAIR in to a search engine.
Google produced 37200 web-sites. One of them must be able to help!

Oh well, the secret is out - yes, I am (subject to visa on Friday 30 Jan) leaving the UK for a while - but I have been asked to stay on as webmaster so you don't get rid of me that easily! More news on this later see the February News!

David, I think I'll run out of time in the UK to do anything so we'll touch base on this one!

I found a place to repair the old, "tube type" radio from my '48 Ford, but you seem to have it covered.
While visiting a friend's garage in New Hampshire, to swap junk, I noticed a carton of vacuum tubes on the floor. I ended taking home 4 large cartons of them-all types and sizes.

If anyone is still interested in this thread the Vintage Wireless Radio Company is to be recommended.
It's a one man outfit and he can repair anything.
He also is able to convert AM/LW radios to FM
and he has stuff made like aerials that can be mounted under the car so you can preserve that period look.

I had him repair my valve set and he did a good job.
Quality doesn't come cheap though.
