MG MG Y Type - Replacement glass - Y Type foglamp

Does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement glass lens for the Lucas FT57 foglamp fitted to Y Types?
Thanks,
Bill.
Bill Bennett

Try eBay - you do get FT57 s for sale now and then - particularly ones needing work that have an intact glass.

Considering the long term, is there a chance these lenses will ever be made again.

How many would make it an attractive item for re-tooling.

I have heard you can have anything made again (especially in China), but how do we do it ?.

Tony Slattery

Not sure if they have them, but try Gregory's Autoparts - see links page on www.mgytypes.org for contact details. They may be able to help you Bill.

Depending on how badly cracked or broken your glass is, you might want to consider (at least as an interim) gluing the pieces back together, if it is only broken into 2 or 3 or half a dozen big pieces, with an epoxy glue. Not good, but better than nothing.

I understand they specialize in and restore MG lamps.

Apparently Gregory's DO sell the FT57 lenses!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. In the end, I got a replacement lens from Gregory's Autoparts who were very helpful - highly recommended.

Could you tell us the part number please Bill.

I had a look on Gregory's Website Catalogue and could not find the FT57 glass.

How was the pricing ?
Tony Slattery

The price is about 40 GBP from memory, but I do not recall their part number. Over to you Bill. I do know they are a bit slow about returning email enquiries though!

Gregory's don't list the FT57 lenses as separate items, I think because he uses all he can get hold of in the refurbishment of complete lamps.

I had recently spent quite a bit of money with him, so was able to persuade him to let me have one for £35 plus carriage. (Good memory, Paul). I'd rather not tell you why I needed a spare glass, suffice it to say that those glasses can be so very slippery when you take them out!!

I don't think Gregory's have a part number for the lenses Tony, but if it helps, the Lucas number is 533597.

Paul is correct in that Gregory's can be a bit slow in replying to emails, but on the 'phone he comes across as a really nice guy just very busy.

As a matter of interest, there are a pair of complete FT57's currently on ebay, item no. 220127102648.
