MG MG Y Type - Reproduction chrome parts quality.
This is what we're up against - Y Type bonnet rear securing bracket, supplied by a high quality specialist, whom I support so prefer not to embarrass - but the quality of product supplied to them, is so poor as to be unuseable. The dimensions of the chrome-on-brass original are nothing like the reproduction; the item is secured by c/sunk setscrews into captive nuts, and yet the holes in the reproduction are not even close. If I elongated the holes, there'd be no metal left.
I'm pretty sure I'll work on the original and make it presentable, but how frustrating is this! Just sayin'. John. ![]() ![]() |

JP Shoot me an email off line please - I would like to contact the "high quality specialist" about getting a better part made from one of my suppliers please. Thanks Paul |

I have seen enough poor quality reproductions such that I will always refurbish rather than replace if at all possible but normally they are at least the correct shape and size. Ian |

Will do, Paul. Anyone want a paperweight? John. |

Hello Paul I encountered the same problem with this part and sent it back for a refund - which came without questioning.... Regards Anton |

I ordered this part back in early December, but it was unavailable/ on back order. I subsequently cancelled that part oder as I wanted the rest of the parts by Christmas. I was told the old supplier of the part had passed away and the new supplier had the parts in production and they would be available in 3 weeks time. It looks like I was lucky. cheers Stuart |

John Thanks and sent you a reply Paul |

NTG now have a new supplier who now makes a much better and more appropriate casting for these so if you bought an incorrect casting in the past and have not used it and want the correct one, contact them directly about it. Paul |

Thank you Paul for bringing this topic to a good end. Anton |

Thanks indeed, Paul. After vascilating, I will now seek a replacement from the UK supplier. A nice finishing touch to the very visible bonnet area! John. |

... or even vacillating! |

Full credit to Mike at NTG - they were aware of the problem and have engaged a new supplier. The replacement part arrived here quickly, and it lines up well against the original; it appears to be diecast chrome whereas the original was chrome-on-brass, but the finished look will be totally fine for me.
