MG MG Y Type - running board attachment bolts
Hi All
Am looking to attach my running boards so was checking through the pot of fixings that survived , most of the fixings were swept up since the sills were very bad. However I have got a few examples of a sort of strip washer ? It is about 2" long , 5/8" wide ,1/16 thick with a hole through the centre. I think I remember them being used as an extra piece to spread the load along the line of the sill mounting point, almost like an extra washer . Am I right ? Its a long time since they came off and I am maybe wrong ? If they dont fit there, anybody know where the hell they do fit ? Thanks as always folks John B Y4424 |

Can you post a picture please John? I will check under my YB which is very original and unmolested (so far!). |

Thanks Paul, I should have done that first time but the car was not with me . Hope these show it ok . There is the outline of a circular washer on one side . Cheers John B ![]() ![]() |

Hi All, Just putting this back to the top, I am at a bit of a loss as to where they fit if its not the running boards but they dont seem long enough for that. John B |

John To me they look like a load spreader so they would go next to the running board, then a washer and then the head of the bolt to spread the load/tension when someone steps on the wide part of the running board. That would be my guess. Paul |

My running boards still have these load spreaders when I removed them before the reno job..YT 4319 |

Hi Both That's what I figured Paul, just wasn't sure enough , but now confirmed by Bob. Thank you . Another quick question - I have a good one and two crabby ones ,so i have to make a few . Do they fit on every bolt or just on the front bolts where the running board is widest ? Thanks a lot as always guys. John B |

My YB running boards also have these John though the appear to be fastened to the inside of the running board itself, probably spot welded. I would expect them to be on all bolts though I expect a large washer is just as good mechanically. Ian |
