MG MG Y Type - Seat rails wanted for MG YT

Nearing the end of a major Rebuild of my YT and require a pair of DRIVER'S SEAT FLOOR RAILS.

Can anyone assist me with a pair for sale?

If possible, the matching brass runners which attach to the seat frame would also be appreciated, although these are available commercially, if necessary.

Seat rails are few and far between. More often than not they are broken at one end at least and need welding up when you do find one. Sadly they are a very complex part to make in small quantities so no one has remade them. No idea if the ones on the MG Y were ever used on any other car either.

I recently sold the last of the spare ones I had.

hello
are they the same as YA ?
in the netherland there is someone how bought a ya wrack to sell spares
perhaps i can find the adress in my mails.
FT Franz

Hi Paul & Franz,

Thank you for your replies. I really needed these parts as soon as possible, if they had been available, as the rebuild has reached the stage where the car needs to be driven to other companies for further work.
My restorer thinks he can adapt a commercially available TD item. As this is an 'out-of-sight' fitting, I will be content to settle for this solution.

Thanks anyway,

John

Hi Have a pic of a set of remanufactured rails if this helps

Rob Snell

Rob, to my mind, your photo shows the rails of the passenger's front seat. Please see attached photos of the drivers side rails. These are the ones to be used together with the brass strips.

The guy in Holland who wrecks a YA is:

Anton, you are correct , John if the guy in Holland no longer has a set I have a spare set with brass runners.

Rob Snell

Thank you all, what an amazing bunch you all are for offering your help. I will talk with my restorer tomorrow morning when he is back at his workshop and see whether he can postpone or work on other parts for now, but I think time is of the essence for a quick solution. I'll be back in touch on here ASAP.

Thanks again, John.

Rob Snell - totally off topic but where did you get the passenger hinge set made? Exquisite!

Paul
Paul Barrow

Paul. Purely luck , I was hunting for a hinge set and found yt seats for sale in Canada With hinges intact . I contacted the guy asking if I purchased the seats could he mail me the hinges If I won and that I was happy for him to relist the seats.
He replied he owned a engineering shop and would make me a set for whatever the seats sold for.
A few weeks later 2 sets arrived , 1 of which I sold a couple of years ago.
Sorry but have long lost his details.
Great workmanship.
Rob Snell

Dang - pity you lost his details :(

If you find them again can you let me know who? How long ago did you find them? Can you recall where you found them???

Hi Paul, Found the listing on EBay roughly 3 years ago , have tried searching history without success.
Rob Snell

Hi All Concerned. Great news, Rob Snell has just dispatched a set of rails and runners to me all the way from Australia to the UK. I'll be looking down the road for the postie every day!

It is so good to see members helping out like this but, as the years go by, it will not get any easier to locate odd parts such as these. I wonder if there is any way a centralised list of spare parts could be devised in which members could list items they have and don't need or need and don't have, beyond the scope of the Classified section?
J P Whittaker

Hi John,

Great that you have runners organised. I had heard that they are a difficult part to find. However, I found these in my shed and assume they are Y-Type. They are wired back-to-back, so the two images show both runners.

Cheers from South Australia,
Bob Schapel

Hi Bob,
I'm far from the expert on these rails - my car was missing them, but they look like the correct Y Type parts to me - maybe one of the other correspondents in this thread could give a definitive answer?
J P Whittaker

Hi Bob

You are right. these two rails are of the correct type for the YT
