MG MG Y Type - Shorrock Blower on YA/YT
Dear all Has anyone out there fitted a Shorrock Compressor to a Ya/YT? If so, could you please let me know the arrangements and possible modifications regarding the accelerator pedal and choke arrangements. Would it be necessary (easiest) to fit a YT/TD accelerator pedal? Thank you for your assistance Anton, YT 4220 ![]() |

Hi Anton Al Moss fitted a supercharger to his YA. He sold this to Skip Kelsey and after Skip's passing it was bought by a good friend of mine. I have often thought about asking for some details on it for the Interesting Ys page and I will now do that and also ask him if I can pass on his email details to you. Regards Paul |

Anton If you care to access or get hold of the last two editions of the Bulletin - the monthly mag produced by the MG Octagon Club - there are two excellent articles by Colin Hooper about fitting a supercharger to his TD.It's not a Shorrock but it is well worth a read and there are several contacts which you might find of some value. If you are unable to get hold of a copy then please let me know and I'll scan it and forward it to you by e-mail off line. All the best Jerry |

Jerry, Sure this is an excellent suggestion, but not too sure about advocating scanning material and sending via email "May just be breach of copyright?", unless MGOCC & Colin Hooper agrees, as it would be article for use by the MGOCC. Perhaps speak to MGCC Y Register Committee colleagues sure they will give you a correct steer & avoid any disrepute. Just a thought! R |

Dear Jerry, dear R Sorry for not replying earlier - I was on an extended holiday trip to Brazil and Argentina. I am a subscriber of the octagon magazine, so no coppyright violation will occure :o) What I am looking for is what the accelerator arrangement looks like since, because of the blower housing, the far end of the YT's accelerator cable can not be fastened to the cylinder head. On my son's RHD MGTD a different peadal arrangement is being used (without a cable). Unfortunately this system can not be applied with the YT, because the TD's pedal protrudes the fire wall in the location where the YT's tip switch is located. Please refer to the attached drawing of both the YT and the TD pedals. Anton ![]() |
