MG MG Y Type - sills, flange

hello, i am cutting out all the rusted metal patches welded over holes by previous owners. The top flange where the sill is meeting the ply floor is knocked over at about 45 degrees!leaning inwards, this is the same on all four openings.Morris minors,mg midgets and all modern cars i have worked on have the flange vertical!. Has a previous owner hammered mine over for some reason?that is the question, can anyone help!

Graham

Pretty sure I know what you are referring to but a picture always helps if you can. Flange should be perpendicular I believe.

thankyou paul, i have done the left side perpendicular like you suggested, if so i can always tap them inwards if needed

Hi Graham ,

Glad to see your revitalized!!! there is light at the end of the tunnel heres a couple of photos of the flange you ask about.

They should be flat for the floor to sit on. After I made new wood floors I marked through the holes and drilled the flange and fitted metric rivet nuts for the fixing screws easier than trying to weld nuts on the underside.

Hope these help Chris

hi Chris ,thanks for the photos, the flange in question is the 1/2 inch one that runs all the way around the opening, on the horizontal bottom edge which runs from "A" post to the "B" post, hope i have explained it better this time. This 1/2 inch flange is leaning over at 45 degrees into the cabin.

Sorry Graham I misunderstood, the flange you talk about should definitely vertical as Paul suggests.Heres a better photo.
