MG MG Y Type - Sixth birthday of mgytypes.org - thanks Paul

I just noticed that I'm the 141,704th visitor to the site on its sixth birthday. This must be one of the best dedicated car club sites of its kind - it's certainly been a great help and support to me and to Y6814, and from the number of visitors, to a large number of us too. So I want to record my thanks to Paul B for all you do for the club and this site.

Tim
Tim Griggs

Thanks Tim and everyone - it is your site and I can only making as interesting and varied as you allow by sending stuff in.

I am sure I answer for all of the crew on the Register Committee when I say that it is a privilege to serve you all.

There are many folk who make this side of the Committee work for you all and I will now embarrass them all in no special order:
Jack Murray - for his work as Registrar,
David Hague and Jack Murray - for their work as Regalia Sales Team
David Pelham - for his work as YT Specialist and Public Relations
David Pelham and Neil Cairns for their work on the Technical side of things
Mike Plumstead and his crew at DMR who host our site and look after all the wizzy wherry things that enable us to see the site, and
finally, all of the committee, and the international reps - you can see them all on the COntact Us page at www.mgytypes.org - for their steadfast faith and unwavering support of the website by allowing us to continue to serve you.

My thanks to them all for six very enjoyable years. Many happy returns to all.

As a new Y owner, may I add my appreciation. The site is a fabulous resource for those of us just starting on the journey.

Thanks
Murray

Congratulations indeed!

When I bought Y5888 almost 5 years ago I was a total stranger concerning pre-MGB MG's. This site and, through his Y-enthousiasm, Paul in particular has been a great help to steepen my learning curve, I even consider myself knowledgable enough to answer question on the BBS now.

This site has lightened up my excistence and I check it every day.

Thanks!
Willem van der Veer

Good wishes and thanks to Paul and all Committee
for the great work, which is much appreciated.

Happy Birthday from the Emerald Isle and YB 1066!
Pat Kiely

In January of 2006, someone told me that MG had once made a four-seater. That evening when I came back home I did a quick research on the Web and immediately came across the present Web site.

As they say: "MY LIFE CHANGED FOREVER AT THAT MOMENT!"

The more I read on, the more I wanted one absolutely.

After a year of searching for a good candidate and with the invaluable help of Paul, who referred me to Jack Murray (who, in turn, found THE car I wanted), Y6486 disembarked in the port of Montreal after crossing the Atlantic.

Yes, this is truly THE car I wanted! Thank you.
Gilles Bachand

You can add my name to those offering congratulations.

Like Willem, I look at the site almost daily, but I have the excuse of being retired and having spare time.

It is the best one-car site of any that I have seen and remember, there are probably little over a thousand Ys actually in use.

Enthusiasts, or obsessives?

Michael
Michael Nicholson

All I can say is, hear hear to everything above. Thanks to everyone involved in putting it together and keeping it going. I found Y6041 on this site and I log on to it daily. It has helped me answer my questions, which have ranged from the naive to the obscure; always with the same friendly knowledgeable approach. My query on how to fix a distributor into a late YB XPAG was answered and solved quickly and professionally by contributions from Connecticut, California and Japan; that sums up how good the site is and how friendly and helpful Y owners are.
It is the best car website on the net, without any doubt.
Enthusiatic or obsessive? Now that I've just got my third Y Type; obsessive enthusiast I think.

Michael, its a fine line but lets say your enthusiasm and my obsessiveness?

Paul
Paul Barrow

Let me too add my congratulations to Paul.
Through his enthusiasm/obsessiveness the site has developed remarkably over the last six years.

As some have noted it is probably the best supported/updated site on classic cars and certainly for a car with no more than 1,500 examples known worldwide.

The value of any website is how current it is and the information available from it. I have a TA and will be getting a Y when I can find some storage space - which will be this year! The T Register is well run by John James who produces an excellent bi monthly mag 'Totally T Type' which can be viewed on the T site- mgttypes.co.uk. It might be handy for some of the Y Type owners to have a look at this - particularly with respect to XPAG and TD/TF steering.

However, I dont find it quite as user friendly as the Y Type site!

So all of you guys out there keep up the good work.

What would be useful is a dedicated section on the site on exeperiences of using and running a Y which would be a great source of reference. Ian Hopkins article in Safety Fast was excellent.

Just one thought about our cars and visibilty to other road users. We are all aware how little awareness there is from other drivers of classics.
My experience in the TA has been to place a high level brake light behind the spare wheel, together with high level flashers on the sides of the fuel tank. Whilst the latter is irrelevant as far as Y's are concerned I feel that a high level brake light on the inside of the rear windscreen is an absolute must. I seem to recall that Neil Cairns has done just that. He may well have shared with others how he fitted this. If my memory is correct and there is no written description of this could you write something please Neil?

Sincerely

Jerry
J P BIRKBECK

Re. Jerry's request for information on fitting a high level brake light to our Y's, my version might be of interest. The light itself came from Stafford Vehicle Components and is an L.E.D. striplight about 330mm long, held in position inside the rear window by a simple home made metal bracket and four small clear plastic suckers from my junk box. No holes are required, and the wire passes down the back of the rear seat and is spliced into the existing brake light cable in the spare wheel compartment. Current taken by the L.E.D.'s is minimal so shouldn't be a problem for the existing switch.

I've taken a couple of digital photos, so if some kind soul can tell me how to add these to this message I'll be very happy to do it.

I'd like to take this opportunity to add my thanks to Paul for all his efforts in making this website such an interesting and invaluable asset - it's certainly the best classic car site I've seen.

Bill.

Paul-

Thanks to you and the group for this fabulous treasure trove of info and advice. Wish the pre-war Austin 7s had the same level of expertise available to all.

Keep up the good work.

I'd like to add my congratulations to Paul and the others involved with mgytypes.org, including the contributors, who drive sites such as this. The site's a fabulous treasure trove of info, especially with regards to technical information. The MGCC T Register site (http://www.tregister.org) Jerry mentions and which I originally designed is thin on content in comparison, especially tech info, although you could argue that such content is covered in the Totally T-Type Bulletin instead. Keep up the good work (if not the early mornings)!
