MG MG Y Type - Slip Ring Photo.
Would anyone be able to post a photo of the internal and the external slip ring assemblies? - mine look salvageable, but the outer component looks as though it's had some butchering done at some stage and I'd love to see a complete one. The inner component photo would just help me to make sure mine is complete. Thanks in anticipation ... John. |

YES, thank you Butch. On yours I can see what looks like a bakelite Separator between each screw terminal on the outer sleeve - these are missing on mine - probably not critical. However there is also what looks like a fifth terminal on the end of yours - what is that?
Also, I now find I'm missing the "bottom half" (the bit without the soldered connections on it) of the inner sleeve. Would you have a photo showing more clearly the bottom half? - I will need to fabricate something and a photo would help greatly. Any one else reading this, I'm happy to trade if you can help with the inner slip ring part and need (eg) gauge units which I have spare. Thanks again ... John. ![]() |

Hello John. The fifth terminal is actually where the clamp for wires is attached. There is also one inside the inner sleeve. If you need I could open the inner slip ring and take pictures. I hope these pictures help. Butch ![]() |

Hello John, I have spare inner slip ring components if you cannot source one locally. Send me an email if you are interested. There are two versions of the slip ring design - early & late, but your car should have the late type. Cheers Tony Slattery |

G'day Tony! - funny, I was going to email you separately today, but figured you'd be on the road. Absolutely I'd like to buy/swap the missing half of the inner component. I'll email you tonight. John. |

Here you go John, and the circlips to hold the two parts together. Cheers Tony ![]() |

Thanks Butch for the photos, which helped me confirm what I was missing. I just want to place on record the enormous help received from our own Tony Slattery - he has come up with the goods, literally overnight, and my missing part is in the mail. We are indeed lucky to have such a resource in this country. Off topic, but I might try to post a few "work in progress" photos soon, to prove that Y3348 is actually coming together. Thank you Tony. Yours, John. |

A photo ? - Bill Spall and I want to see more than a photo. We want to see the car in person !. LOL Keep at it, Cheers Tony |

Ha! Fair enough, Tony - some 19 years ago, I took the car off the road to replace leaking welch plugs ... the rest of the story will be familiar to most on this BBS! I shall indeed keep at it. Fortunately we retire at the end of this year, and that should help with my time allocation. Yours, John. |
