MG MG Y Type - Sommertreff 2014 Video
http://www.rs1.tv/index.php?idcatside=1151&sid=f01cd935b9bcb48bb8af0e360cbec5f4 The above link is a video to this years Sommertreff in Remscheid. This year there were 16 Y types including 4 YT's and a YT special. Apart from engine troubles which resulted in my trip being cut short and a repatriation on a self drive tow truck I had a great time and an adventure I will never forget. Next year the event will be limited to 16 cars. Richard |

Good link -though I would have got more out of it had I understood German! Is that you one of the final frames? Sorry to hear about your engine troubles. What were they? Hope its fairly straightforward. All the best Jerry |

Jerry, My car is there on one of the views, I was successful around the run on the Saturday. Water pump was cause of my break down, broken pulley that was loose as the key wouldn't lock due to broken pulley for the fan belt. I decided to go for self repatriation on tow truck rather than leave YT in storage for 15 days and let breakdown company bring it to the UK. I could write book of my experiences of this trip some good, some bad, but still smiling as car home safe in end! Richard |

Good to hear that Richard Water pumps are a problem. Andrew Morland had a water pump failure on his way to the Y Summer Weekend last week. He too opted to use a recovery service. Pumps this day and age are a problem and certainly some of those supplied by the main providers have I understand a poor track record, There is a chap who provides a service for rebuilding water pumps. I'll see if I can find hia details and post them on the site. Haven't forgotten the article taht I mentioned I would forward to you! All the best Jerry |

Jerry, Thanks for information. I see there is also article on ttypes.org and link on the imgytr about improved pump made by racemettle, has anyone had experience of these new improved pumps. Still to remove my old pump so in no immediate rush. Richard |

Brilliant video! Would have loved to been there, too. Next year. |

Hi Richard The IMGYTR, unlike some other clubs only accepts recommendations for services from people who have tried them and found their services to be worthy so you can take it that anyone you see is recommended. In the case of Racemettle, they were used by and recommended by the late great David Pelham. To bad that he is not able to answer for himself, but that is a pretty good recommendation. Paul |

Hi Richard I helped fit one of the Racemettle pumps to a TD, it is a superior piece of engineering to the original the main feature that you can see is the impeller it is machined aluminium to a shape that doubles the volume of water that passes through. A new pulley comes fitted to the pump. It is designed and built for performance engines where the demands are greater. If your radiator core is not 100% clear the advantage will be completely lost as the water will only trickle through anyway. Any rad that has been filled with hard water for any length of time will have started to fur up. The standard pumps produced these days do seem to be unreliable. Racemettle pumps cost a lot more but could be worth it in the long run. Peter |

Peter, Noted. I will ensure my radiator is flow tested and likely opt for the Racemettle pump, but retain old part in case required for repair in future. My concern is always over the quality of new parts, an example being some spark plug caps purchased from main Y Type supplier being inferior in my view to the ones I already had, sign of times suppose.
