MG MG Y Type - Spring Clips
Me again, Anyone know of a supplier for the correct type of spring clips for holding tools to boot floor? Regards Rob King |

Hi Me again, This is me again too. Got to admit you have got me there! There really arent any I can suggest as there simply is no demand really for them. I know it is not "correct" but you may as well fit modern hardware clips in until you can find someone. Fortunately the SWC floor in my car was good and I havent had to scrabble for these as the original ones were kept and put back in by the Previous Owner who restored that part well. I would suggest that maybe you call Mike Green at NTG +44(0)1473 406031 and ask him. Mike used to own (and is now looking for a nice YB) a Y and he will know exactly what you are looking for and may be able to suggest a source. If he does, please let us know how that works out and if you need a refernce point I could take some photos for you. Good luck on this one Rob, Paul |

Hi Folks, Since I first posted this thread I have drawn a blank and been unable to find a source of a satisfactory replacement for the original tool clips. I only have two originals both broken, one of a smaller size, I assume for starting handle etc, and one of the larger size for the foot pump. I learn from LTBY's that the YA and YT had 9 clips, I guess 6 small and 3 larger whilst the YB had 8 clips, two of which were the larger. I have enquired with a spring manufacturer regarding the viability of having a small batch of each size of spring made. There is no problem with replicating the springs, either plated or painted. Clearly viability will depend on demand.......so heres the question....how many Y owners out there would want such items were they available? On the subject of cost, an extremely rough estimate on the smallest batch of 40 items would be £4 PER spring. Clearly this estimate would reduce significantly if the batch were larger. Would anyone interested please let me know either via this thread or directly. Thanks Rob |

When I first rebuilt my YT in the 1970's I was missing 2 or 3 of these clips. I noticed that a Land Rover used the same type of clips so I went to the Land Rover dealer and got new ones. As I recall they were the same as the one's I had. Terry |

To some Rob the £4 a clip might seem expensive so to put that into context here is an eBay item for 3 old crank handle clips and it is already over £16 so £5.30 each. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-parts-set-3-original-clips-hand-crank-MG-TD-/310308151325?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item483fcea01d Rob, put me down on your list please.
