MG MG Y Type - Standard dimension of Cyl. Head

Does anyone please recall the thread, I read couple of monthe ago, regarding the XPAG head's standard hight and how thick a used/compressed head gasket is. I need both sizes to revert to the original dimention (by making up an intermediate piece of mild steel and use two head gaskets) in order to be able to fit a Shorrock blower.
I have searched high and low but can not remember if the blog had appeared on the Y-Types site or on the T-types web...

I wish you all a Nice Festive Season

Hi Anton

Was it on the MG TD - TF BBS or the MG Ta - TC BBS maybe?

Hello Paul

I've checked there (for a while). Probably i need to look through my Octagon Car Clubs bulletins. By the way, do you know the standard hight, by any chance?

Anton,
This subject was discussed on the TD/TF BBS not too long ago and I made note of the details. It was reported that the depth of a new cylinder head [TD&TF] was 3.022" and that 2 head gaskets measured .045". I do not recall if the head gaskets were compressed or not. I would guess that they were compressed.

Anton,

My cylinderhead is very probably the original height, but needs to be overhauled. Are you interested in buying it or exchange it for a good cylinderhead with higher compression?

Hi Anton,
According to my 1948 copy of the M.G. Y type maintenance manual, the depth of head should be 76.75mm to give a compression ratio of 7.2/7.4. mine is currently 74.75mm giving a compression ratio of 8.5:1 (approx)
Hope that helps.

Dear all
Thank you for your replies. SANDY sent me an e-mail, pointing out that the details, I had in mind are mentioned in the Moss Catalogue. Taking the use of a second head gasket into account, I need to make up a 1mm mild steel intermediate gasket to achive the original depth/hight.

Dear Willem
Thank you for offering to do a swop. Problem is that my cyl. head is all done up with bigger valves and converted to led free. So it is the lesser evel to just make up the intermediate gasket. If you let me have your e-mai address, I can search for an higher compression head.
